
1999 MAC Award Winners
The
13th Annual MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs) Awards
ceremony was held on Monday. April 5, 1999 at Town Hall (123 West
44th Street), beginning at 7:30 PM (doors open at 7:00). Liza Minnelli
received the 1999 MAC Board of Directors Award, and performed with
Billy Stritch. Barbara Cook and Wally Harper performed and received
the 1999 MAC Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Sheldon Harnick.
Among the celebrities who performed were Betty Buckley and Kathie
Lee Gifford and John Pizzarelli and the Barry Levitt Trio. The show
was directed by Thommie Walsh, and produced by Nancy McGraw and
Eileen Solomon.
This
year's MAC Awards covered 32 categories, including outstanding jazz,
vocal, pop/R&B, and comedy performers; recording and song of the
year; variety production; and jazz instrumentalist and piano bar
entertainer. A special accolade, the Hanson Award, was presented
to a newcomer who shows great promise in cabaret.
