If you wish to have your cabaret related event published on the website

have a press release, just click here: http://www.svhamstra.com/PressRelease1.shtml

Please don't send, instead of a press release, one of
those e-mails with all those annoying html links (with multi-columns,
embedded photos, distracting backgrounds, etc.) Do not send simply
a .jpg of your post card. Do not send us one of those "e-vite" things
that require us to "click to open" and lead to a web page somewhere.
I never open them! Simple, straightforward text format, please.

LE CHAT NOIR PRESENTS SEVERAL MAJOR CABARET EVENTS IN MARCH
Proprietor Barbara Motley has announced a number of major bookings for
LE CHAT NOIR (715 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans, LA - 504-581-5812
- http://www.cabaretlechatnoir.com/
) during March 2007, with performances by Sharon McNight, Kristopher
McDowell, Tommy Tune, Liz Callaway, Jason Graae, Alex Rybeck and Daryl
Sherman.
Tony-nominated Sharon McNight will appear at the club
for two performances, on Saturday & Monday, March 10th (11:00 pm)
and 12th (8:00 pm). McNight will perform her notorious "Songs to Offend
Almost Everyone" show, with the show on the 12th a special benefit
for The Mystic Krewe of Satyricon (http://www.mystickreweofsatyricon.com/
).
On Tuesday, March 13th at 8:00 pm San Francisco's Kristopher
McDowell takes the cabaret stage with his new show, "The Anthony Newley
Project." Sharon McNight serves as director for the show, which she
also helped create. The Anthony Newley Project shines a light on the
unique life of this talented writer, director and ultimate entertainer.
For 30 years Anthony Newley was one of the most imposing talents to
come out of England this side of the Beatles.
Then on Friday & Saturday, March 16th & 17th at 8:00
pm, Tommy Tune will step in for the ailing, New Orleans-born Kitty
Carlisle Hart, and will be joined by Tony-nominated singer-actress
Liz Callaway, tenor Jason Graae and musical director Alex Rybeck.
The show is produced by Patrick Lee as a benefit for the Contemporary
Arts Center's Performing Artists Fund (http://www.cacno.org/
).
On Sunday March 18th at 6:00 pm, jazz pianist/singer
Daryl Sherman, takes center stage for an evening of music and song,
joined by James Chirillo on guitar and Al Bernard on bass.
Rounding out the month are performances of local musical
comedy revue genius Ricky Graham's "I Know What It Means." It's an
evening of real New Orleans laughs and songs. Also The Red Light District
Variety Show, where Jim Fitzmorris emcees a late nite show of gossip,
raves, rants and rumors about local political affairs featuring dancing
girls and musical guests. Later in the month, Sheelah Strong Black
returns with Ricky Graham and Banu Gibson in the smash hit musical
"Getting a Kick Out of Cole," a comedic tribute to Cole Porter.
See the LE CHAT NOIR website at http://www.cabaretlechatnoir.com/
for the complete schedule.
SHOW CANCELLATION / POSTPONEMENT NOTES
LENNIE WATTS' MANILOW SHOW CANCELLED FOR MARCH
Due to a family emergency, Lennie Watts has been forced to cancel his
run of his "Manilow '73 to '83" show which was to be presented at THE
METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - http://www.metropolitanroom.com/
) scheduled for Sundays, March 4th & 11th and Mondays, March 5th, 12th,
19th & 26th. Hopefully they will be rescheduled for early summer or
the fall.
WINTER WEATHER MIGHT MEAN DELAYS AND CANCELLATIONS
Winter weather means cold, snow, sleet and other uncomfortable conditions
- and also means occasional cabaret event cancellations. If planning
to attend a live entertainment event be sure to phone the venue ahead
of time - and give yourself extra time to reach the venue. If your event
is cancelled, please let CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE know - and also post
the cancellation on the MESSAGE BOARD (just click on the button marked
MESSAGE BOARD at the top of every page on the website) before 4:00 pm.
It is a FREE service to promote the art and artists of cabaret. You
need not be a member of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE (but it would be nice).
IMPORTANT NEWS FROM CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING THE MESSAGE BOARD FOR TODAY
Because we continue to receive over 100 spam postings (most of them
porn) on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE MESSAGE BOARD each day which have
to be manually removed, the board is currently being "moderated" 24
hours a day - or at least during those hours when I am at home and awake.
But because funds have been low the past three months or so, I have
had to take on a few non-cabaret projects to earn some cash. Today is
one of those days when I will be away from the computer for a long period
of time. I have to leave my apartment at 3:00 pm to work with a client,
then attend a show at 6:30 pm at DON'T TELL MAMA and finally attend
the BROADWAY BY THE YEAR show at THE TOWN HALL at 8:00 pm and the After
Show Party at around 11:00 pm getting me back home well after 1:00 am.
So, please post anything really important - especially if it pertains
to something happening today - before 3:00 pm. I apologize for the inconvenience.
ATTENTION ALL NYC AREA SUBSCRIBERS
Ae will be sending out a special addendum to this issue later today
to subscribers of our NYC CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE BULLETIN SERVICE, so
if you have not signed up for it, today would be a good time to sign
on. Just click on the button found at the top of every page on the website
marked NYC AREA NEWS and then click on the blue button on that page
marked NYC BULLETIN and fill out the simple form. Over 350 folks have
already signed up. It is another FREE service to promote the art and
artists of cabaret. You need not be a member of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
(but it would be nice).
SPECIAL TO ALL MEMBERS OF CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE MEMBERS
A special and important e-mail will be going out to all members in the
next few days with important information regarding the future of CABARET
HOTLINE ONLINE. Please keep an eye out for this "members only" message.
HERE & THERE
As with many dates I have had in my lifetime, much is promised but usually
not much is delivered. Last night we were promised up to 7 inches of
snow by the TV weather persons, but only about 2 inches were on the
ground this morning, with temperatures climbing into the mid-30s (f)
today in town, with a changeover to rain. Things are not quite as good
north of the city. With temperatures going into the 40s tomorrow, the
main inconvenience will be those slushy puddles in the crosswalks that
you have to leap over. With my one knee quite not up to the strength
of the other, leaping is out of the question for me. I bought a new
pair of shoes to wear to the BROADWAY BY THE YEAR show tonight at 8:00
pm at THE TOWN HALL (123 West 43rd Street, NYC - 212-997-1929 - http://www.the-townhall-nyc.org/
) but I plan to wear the old ones anyway.
Regarding the BROADWAY BY YEAR show tonight, just as I urge NYC-area
cabaret fans and performers to join MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets),
I urge these same folks to try to get to as many of these shows (and
the BROADWAY UNPLUGGED and NIGHTLIFE AWARD events) created/produced/written/hosted
by Scott Siegel as they can possibly afford. These Siegel events always
feature cabaret performers in addition to performers from Broadway,
and Scott and wife Barbara cover and review cabaret events around town
as well as theater, jazz and comedy. The very survival of cabaret is
dependent on the art form being presented and promoted in the best possible
way - something that Scott does again and again with each event he hosts.
Cabaret lovers and performers get a double satisfaction by attending
these events - the joy of a great show (they are always exciting and
entertaining) and the joy of showing appreciation to the Siegels for
their tireless efforts to promote the art and artists of cabaret.
I hope to see many of you there tonight - good seats
are still available. Scheduled to perform are Bob Martin (Tony Winner,
Drowsy Chaperone), Malcolm Gets (Tony Nominee, Amour), Nancy Anderson
(3x Drama Desk Nominee), Eddie Korbich (Drama Desk Nominee, Drowsy
Chaperone), Lari White (3x Grammy Award Winner), Lumiri Tubo (Award-Winning
Vocalist), Max Von Essen (Dance Of The Vampires), Joyce Chittick (Pajama
Game), Jeffry Denman (The Producers), Leah Hocking (All Shook Up),
Paul Schoeffler (Sweet Charity), David Colbert (Nightlife Award 2007,
Hedwig) and singer/dancer/actor Luis Villabon. (cast subject to change).

You can state your opinion, promote your show or CD (or someone else's
show or CD), announce your show cancellation or postponement, or post
any other cabaret-related message on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE Message
Board - just click on the button marked MESSAGE BOARD at the top of
every page on the website. It is a FREE service to promote the art and
artists of cabaret. You need not be a member of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
(but it would be nice) and you don't need a password. Just read the
rules and be sure to use your real name on your posting. Unfortunately,
since there is no membership or password required, the board has been
the subject of a lot of spam postings - up to 100 or more a day - so
it is currently being moderated 24 hours a day, so it may take a while
for your post to appear, especially if you post your message between
4:00 pm and 1:00 am when I am usually away from my computer.
Have you checked out the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE blog yet? Many items
appear on the blog that never make it into the regular pages of the
website because they are important but too short to fill an entire page.
Just click here: http://svhamstra.com/wordpress/index.php
or click on the button at the top of every page of the website marked
HOTLINE BLOG. Even better, you can add your comments to any item on
the blog - just register and then add your thoughts. And by clicking
on the little blue box in the URL address rectangle marked RSS at the
very top of your browser you can subscribe to regular news feeds announcing
additions to the blog.
I mention this because there will soon be a special
announcement exclusively on the blog about an important new program
we are developing. The blog is another FREE service to promote the
art and artists of cabaret. You need not be a member of CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE to visit (but it would be nice).
A reminder: With the preliminary MAC award ballots in the hands of the
voters and due back by March 14th (postmarked by March 10th), a number
of performers hoping to make it past the first ballot are preparing
repeats of their 2006 shows for late February and early March as a means
of showing the voters their stuff. Problem is getting the word out on
short notice. Need I remind you of the advantages of running an ad on
CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE?
Unlike those expensive to print, expensive to mail,
post cards or fliers, a banner on CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE is seen every
day, again and again - not just seen once and tossed in the recycle
bin. And it is seen by cabaret lovers (and MAC voters) all over the
world (even by folks who might not be able to make your show) again
and again, every day. Just click on the button marked BANNER INFO
at the top of every page on the website to see sample banners, prices,
sizes and styles. There are ad styles available and affordable to
every taste and price range. And as an added bonus, your cabaret or
CD offering gets a mention in every MONDAY issue of CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE which is e-mailed to nearly 2500 cabaret lovers around the
world. By the way, the lowest cost ads (side bars) are limited to
5 per week, and at least through mid-March there is only 1 slot available.
AND NOW A WORD FROM OUR SPONSORS
REMEMBER: Each MONDAY issue of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE newsletter
includes listings for all the banner advertisers on the website as long
as the banner is running. In most cases there are more detailed articles
on these items in the CABARET NEWS section of the website.

SUSIE BUTLER CELEBRATES SARAH VAUGHAN'S 83RD BIRTHDAY MARCH 27th
Asked who they think of when you mention jazz divas, most jazz connoisseurs
would immediately identify Sarah Vaughan - The Divine One - the only
jazz singer who could have been an opera star in her own right! With
a three octave range to go with her impressive piano playing, Sarah
Vaughan was more than just a girl singer! On March 27th, on the occasion
of Sarah Vaughan's 83rd birthday, Susie Butler will be singing the "Sarah
Vaughan Songbook" at THE EMPIRE PLUSH ROOM at the York Hotel (940 Sutter
Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-885-2800 - http://www.empireplushroom.com/

) was voted The Best Cabaret Space In New York. Writes BACK STAGE: "Conveniently
nestled along Manhattan's Restaurant Row, DON'T TELL MAMA has been one

TERRI-MARIE MICHAELS HAS GOT A NEW PAIR OF SHOES FEBRUARY 26th
Actress-singer Terri-Marie Michaels performs her cabaret show "Got A
New Pair of Shoes" at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 1-212-757-0788
- http://www.donttellmamanyc.com/
) on Monday, February 26th at 6:30 pm. Directed by Kathy Morath, the
show is under the music direction of Broadway's Ted Kociolek and features
Walter Wallace on bass and Adam Weber on drums. Terri-Marie performs
an effervescent variety of songs from many genres while telling her
Cinderella-esque tale of a frustrated 30 something gal in pursuit of
a significant other in the big city. Instead she encounters a parade
of unsuitable suitors including a blind date with small feet and a big
ego, a salsa dancing Latin with "mother issues", a womanizing dentist,
and a nice, but commitment-phobic Jersey Guy. Frustrated by her results,
she even falls for her roommate's boyfriend when suddenly someone utterly
unexpected steps forth from the fold and offers her...a new pair of
shoes! Lyricist David Zippel has written special lyrics for Terri-Marie's
rendition of his song "What A Guy" from the Broadway musical The Goodbye
Girl. SEE FULL STORY ON THE WEBSITE at http://www.svhamstra.com/NewsNYC070224Michaels.shtml

ABOUT CABARET NEWS IN THE NEWSLETTER, ON THE BLOG AND ON THE WEBSITE
Information about other shows around the country and around the world
can be found on the CABARET NEWS page of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
website. How do you get an item posted in the CABARET NEWS section of
the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website? Just e-mail me a press release of
at least four paragraphs, giving the complete information on your show,
CD release or other cabaret related event. Include photos in jpg or
gif format if available. Please send me complete information - and do
not merely e-mail me a copy of your flier or a reference to a website.
By the way, I usually trim quotes from reviews from the press releases
I receive before using the item on my website or in the newsletter,
so don't count them when putting together the four or more paragraphs.
If you don't have a press release, just click here:
http://www.svhamstra.com/PressRelease1.shtml
and fill out the information as completely as possible.
Just send in your press release or listings request
in simple txt format (the format I write these issues in and use for
the website). And, please, please don't send, instead of a press release,
one of those e-mails with all those annoying html links (with multi-columns,
embedded photos, distracting backgrounds, etc.) Do not send simply
a .jpg of your post card. Do not send us one of those "e-vite" things
that require us to "click to open" and lead to a web page somewhere.
I never open them!
IT'S TIME TO GO
At the top of this newsletter I promised that you would read things
in this issue you will not find published anywhere else. Did I keep
my promise?
I realize that there is probably far more information
here than you might be able to digest in one reading, but please keep
in mind that for the performers mentioned, CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
is one of the few publications that spread the word about their shows
and performances. To them, that item about their show is most important,
and the fact that every issue published is also posted on my website
means another place where they can be found by fans and search engines
(Google, etc.) alike. Your banner ads and membership donations make
this all possible.
Please drop me a line regarding your thoughts about the revised format
for the MONDAY issue of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE. By eliminating the listings
section (just including links to the listings on the website) I am able
to include more news items and still send out a shorted issue. But you
might prefer the former style. I won't know unless you let me know.
Is $20 too much to ask? Frankly I am mystified by the number of subscribers
(nearly 2,100) who receive the newsletter but have never joined - even
as basic $20 SILVER members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE - to support this
bi-weekly newsletter, the 5,500 plus page website, the blog and other
programs. I get a special little jolt when a performer asks for some
special attention for their event, when at the same time they have never
bothered to join and support our work.
You don't need to be a member for your event to receive
a listing or for your press release to be added to the website. You
do not have to be a member to post on the blog or on the CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE message board. You do not have to be a member to receive the
newsletter or the NYC Cabaret Bulletins. You don't have to be a member
for me to come to see your show and possibly write about it. Perhaps
I am giving too much away and so it isn't appreciated. In any case,
if you have not yet joined as a member, please send me an e-mail letting
me know why.
I still need 40 new SILVER members (or renewals) or
10 new GOLD ($75) members (or renewals) to get caught up on the bills
from November through January I was unable to keep current. Please
consider joining this week. For information on becoming a member of
CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, just click on the JOIN HERE button on the
top of each page on the website. You can even make your membership
donation by credit card, using PayPal. If you prefer not to use a
credit card and PayPal, you can send a check made out simply to Stu
Hamstra and mail it to CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, 676A Ninth Avenue #120,
NY, NY 10036.
And that is just about the way it was.
