IMPORTANT NEWS FROM/ABOUT CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
CABARET HOTLINE MESSAGE BOARD IS FREE FOR ALL
You can state your opinion, promote your show or CD (or someone else's
show or CD), announce your show cancellation or postponement, or post
any other cabaret-related message on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE Message
Board - just click on the button marked MESSAGE BOARD at the top of
every page on the website. It is a FREE service to promote the art and
artists of cabaret. You need not be a member of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
(but it would be nice) and you don't need a password. Just read the
rules and be sure to use your real name on your posting. Unfortunately,
since there is no membership or password required, the board has been
the subject of a lot of spam postings - up to 50 or more a day - so
it is currently being moderated 24 hours a day, so it may take a while
for your post to appear, especially if you post your message between
4:00 pm and 1:00 am when I am usually away from my computer.
This is a FREE service to promote the art and artists
of cabaret. You need not be a member of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE (but
it would be nice).
HERE & THERE
This is sort of a quickly put-together issue - I spent much of the day
yesterday scouting for a new space to live, with actually some success.
Now to work on the details of getting the funds together to make the
move. It is still not finalized, but looks really promising. More on
that next issue or so.
Consequently I got a late start on getting this issue
together - starting at around 11:00 pm last night, working until about
2:00 am and again starting at 7:00 am this morning. We managed to
include about a dozen "Breaking News" items - including the MAC AWARD
final nomination list - as well as updating the weekly news items
regarding shows with guest performers and special event show which
appear regularly.
But there is simply no time left today for the usual
chit-chat here & there stuff. If the deal for the new space goes through
it means time for the next few days to stay home and get some items
for the MONDAY issue that I don't have time for today.
Put on the "back burner" was the finalized CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE BEST OF 2006 list. It is really all complete, but needs some
brushing up. As soon as it appears on the website, you will be informed.
Also, for those folks who signed up for the NYC PICKS e-mails, which
were being sent out twice a week, the service has been discontinued
due to lack of interest. Only about 35 folks signed on (we decided that
100 names were necessary to make it worthwhile). Currently there are
over 350 subscribers to the NYC Bulletin Service (announcing show cancellations,
special news and other items of interest mainly to NYC area readers),
and this service - which is strictly only for special notices - is continuing.
The bi-weekly picks took about an hour to prepare each time and with
so few people interested I decided to use that time for other work.
A reminder: With the final MAC AWARD nominees announced, a number of
performers are preparing repeat performances of their 2006 shows as
a means of showing the voters their stuff. But because the announcement
was only made yesterday, if a show is scheduled, getting the word out
on short notice becomes a problem. Need I remind you of the advantages
of running an ad on CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE? Unlike an expensive to print,
expensive to mail, post card or flier, a banner on CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
is seen every day, again and again - not just once and tossed in the
recycle bin. And it is seen by cabaret lovers (and MAC voters) all over
the world (even by folks who might not be able to make your show) again
and again, every day.
Just click on the button marked BANNER INFO at the top
of every page on the website to see sample banners, prices, sizes
and styles. There are ad styles available and affordable to every
taste and price range. And as an added bonus, your cabaret or CD offering
gets a mention in every MONDAY issue of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE which
is e-mailed to over 2,700 cabaret lovers around the world. By the
way, the lowest cost ads (side bars) are limited to 5 per week.
Did you check out the new photo on the "PHOTO OF THE WEEK" page (which
some folks are calling "PHOTO OF THE YEAR" because it has been up there
so long - my camera broke)? Someone sent me a vintage photo and you
are invited to guess the identity of the three people in the photo.
No prize - but send in your guesses. All three are famous - sort of.
Only one person has sent in a guess so far (wrong answer).
Congratulations to all the MAC AWARD nomination finalists. As official
nominees on the final ballot, you are indeed considered by your peers
to be among the best in town. And you are entitled to use the phrase
"2007 MAC AWARD NOMINEE" on all your future publicity releases even
if you don't win on the final ballot. Now it is up to the membership
of MAC to choose the winners. This is the only cabaret award in NYC
where cabaret performers and fans actually vote for the winners, so
this is indeed a very special prize to be attained. Remember, you must
be a member of MAC to take part in the voting. And voters: remember
that you should only vote for performers/performances you have actually
seen.
That's all I have time for today. Now to get some rest - I have a full
night of cabaret planned including Seth Rudetsky's BROADWAY CHATTERBOX
interview show ay DON'T TELL MAMA at 6:00 pm, then Marilyn Maye's opening
night at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM at 8:00 pm and (if Marilyn's show ends
on time - she has a second show at 10:30 pm) I will try to get to THE
DUPLEX to catch Moira Danis' Petula Clark tribute at 9:30 pm. Then -
if time and energy permit - I want to stop by brand new piano bar UNCLE
CHARLIES (139 East 45th Street, NYC) which just opened (official Grand
Opening soon to be announced) where David Pellegrene is at the piano
from 9:00 pm to midnight.

REMINDER REGARDING CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE DISCOUNTS
To be eligible for a listing on the MEMBER DEALS page you must send
in your flier, press release and/or other promotional materials clearly
showing the discount offer. That information will be used as the basis
for the MEMBER DEALS page notice, as well as for the newsletter listing.
Please be sure to check with the venue where you are performing to be
sure that these discounts will be honored.
Any member who is denied a properly listed CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE discount should notify me at once. I cannot guarantee that
the discount will be honored, but I can take steps to contact the
parties involved and publish the facts in the newsletter and remove
the listing from the MEMBER DEALS page.
ABOUT CABARET NEWS IN THE NEWSLETTER AND ON THE WEBSITE
Information about other shows around the country and around the world
can be found on the CABARET NEWS page of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
website. How do you get an item posted in the CABARET NEWS section of
the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website? Just e-mail me a press release of
at least four paragraphs, giving the complete information on your show,
CD release or other cabaret related event. Include photos in jpg or
gif format if available. Please send me complete information - and do
not merely e-mail me a copy of your flier or a reference to a website.
By the way, I usually trim quotes from reviews from
the press releases I receive before using the item on my website or
in the newsletter, so don't count them when putting together the four
or more paragraphs. And, please, please don't send in your press release
with all those annoying html links (with embedded photos, distracting
backgrounds, etc.), or simply a .jpg of your post card or as one of
those "e-vite" things that require me to "click to open" and lead
to a web page somewhere. Just send in your press release or listings
request in simple .txt format (the format I write these issues in
and use for the website).
IT'S TIME TO GO
Near the top of this newsletter I promised that you would read things
in this issue you will not find published anywhere else. Did I keep
my promise?
Your membership donations support this publication and the CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE website. If you enjoy the fruits of our efforts and would like
to support us, why not join as a supporting member? Your donation is
most important to me, not just to pay for my food, cable, phone, DSL
and rent, etc., but also as a confirmation of your appreciation. Can
you please help?
For information on becoming a member of CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE, just click on the JOIN HERE button on the website. You can
even make your membership donation by credit card, using PayPal. If
you prefer not to use a credit card and PayPal, you can send a check
made out simply to Stu Hamstra and mail it to CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE,
676A Ninth Avenue #120, NY, NY 10036.
I realize that there is probably far more information here than you
might be able to digest in one reading, but please keep in mind that
for the performers mentioned, CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE is one of the few
publications that spread the word about their shows and performances.
To them, that item about their show is most important, and the fact
that every issue published is also posted on my website means another
place where they can be found by fans and search engines (Google, etc.)
alike. Your membership donations make this all possible.
Please support these newsletters and the website, and help me cover
cabaret events by joining CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE this week. I truly
believe that everyone receiving these e-mails and everyone who visits
the website and the blog are receiving value far higher than the minimal
$20 annual SILVER membership. I am spreading the news about you - your
friends - performers all over the world - twice a week by e-mail and
every day on the web. I need your support to do this. Joining as a supporting
member is so simple - you don't even have to find a stamp or an envelope:
just click on the JOIN HERE button on the website.
Thanks to the folks that joined this past week. Your
continued support encourages me tremendously.
And that is just about the way it was.
