IMPORTANT NEWS FROM/ABOUT CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
Just when CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE was getting back on track financially after a steep drop in banner ad and membership income in December and January, along comes a note on March 1st from the landlord that he wants to move part of his family back into this apartment on May 1st - meaning CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE needs new digs quickly. This will result in some unanticipated costs that cannot be avoided.

If you have postponed joining as a member, or if would like to make a special contribution to help us out, your gifts/memberships would be especially appreciated this week. For a quick and easy way to show your support just click on the JOIN HERE button at the top of every page on the website. If you are already a member, there is a MAKE A DONATION button also on the front page, in the NEWS section.

HERE & THERE
Well, I wish I were there, but I'm still here - in Queens that is. But I'm almost there. As we slipped another day behind in our schedule I decided it would be best to keep the computer here through the sending of today's issue of the newsletter just in case there were connection problems at the new apartment. Now I will have 4 days to work out any snags that might crop up. But I am 90% packed - Daniel came over to this apartment yesterday afternoon while I was in Manhatten preparing for the move-in, and packed up several more cartons and also cleaned out my file cabinet.

This is an extremely short issue - I have a lot to tell you about but no time - I want to be out of here completely by tomorrow and now comes the nitty-gritty work - moving all these cartons down three flights of stairs so that the truck can be loaded quickly. Danial will be here shortly to finish his part and then he and a friend will be here tomorrow to do the heavy lifting.

There are a few events coming up in the NYC area that are really important for cabaret fans.

On April 9th Back Stage Magazine will hold their annual Bistro Awards Gala at GOTHAM COMEDY CLUB (208 West 23rd Street, NYC - 212-367-9000 - http://www.gothamcomedyclub.com/ ). At the gala Back Stage will fete Tony Award winner Betty Buckley and 38 winners of its annual Bistro Awards, which celebrate and honor outstanding excellence in cabaret and distinguished work during 2006. Award winners are invited to perform at this event so it should really be a star-studded, exciting evening. Tickets cost $35 plus there is a two beverage minimum. Premium tickets cost $60, plus the two drink minimum, and include a champagne reception and preferred seating in the showroom. To purchase, call (646) 654-5725 or email bistros@backstage.com. At one time the gala was the number-one entertainment event in town but the past few years budget constraints made the event an "invitation only" affair. This year the public is invited, and all cabaret fans are urged to show their support for BACK STAGE Editor-at-Large Sherry Eaker who is producing the show. If it is a sell out it may once more become "the hottest ticket in town" every spring. Plus it will show the "powers that be" at the magazine the importance of cabaret to the folks in NYC. Please call in your ticket order today! SEE FULL STORY ON THE WEBSITE at http://www.svhamstra.com/NewsNYC070409Bistro.shtml

Also, the 21st ANNUAL MAC AWARDS will be presented at a gala show on Tuesday, May 1st at BB KING'S BLUES CLUB (237 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-997-4144 - http://www.bbkingsblues.com/ ). I don't know exactly what is being planned, but with Phil Bond directing the show it should be a winner! And unlike the past few years, this room has cabaret-style seating with food and beverage service (2-drink minimum). Seating is limited to 600 - with many seats already set aside for nominees and press, so be sure to order yours as soon as possible. Tickets cost from $45 to $125. I urge you to attend to show this town that the cabaret community is united and not broken, as some (fortunately only a few) would have you believe. I hope to have more details on this event in the next few issues. See the MAC website (http://www.macnyc.com/ ) for more information on how to order your tickets.

With the MAC voters now making their choices from the final MAC AWARD nomineess, a number of performers are preparing repeat performances of their 2006 shows as a means of showing the voters their stuff. But because the ballots just went into the mail on a week or so ago, getting the word out about your show on short notice becomes a problem. Need I remind you of the advantages of running an ad on CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE? Unlike an expensive to print, expensive to mail, post card or flier, a banner on CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE is seen every day, again and again - not just once and tossed in the recycle bin. And it is seen by cabaret lovers (and MAC voters) all over the world (even by folks who might not be able to make your show) again and again, every day.

Just click on the button marked BANNER INFO at the top of every page on the website to see sample banners, prices, sizes and styles. There are ad styles available and affordable to every taste and price range. And as an added bonus, your cabaret or CD offering gets a mention in every MONDAY issue of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE which is e-mailed to over 2,700 cabaret lovers around the world. By the way, the lowest cost ads (side bars) are limited to 5 per week. In most instances, we can have your banner or ad up and running within 24 hours!

Did you check out the new photo on the "PHOTO OF THE WEEK" page (just click on the link on my home page, just below the two super-side bar ads in the left column)? Someone sent me a vintage photo and you are invited to guess the identity of the three people in the photo. No prize - but send in your guesses. All three are famous - sort of. Only four people have sent in a guess so far (no one has been able to name all three).

I told you this was a short issue - some news items follow plus the usual weekly remiders of shows that occur regularly but feature different performers/guests.

Now back to work.

NOW FOR NEWS ABOUT CABARET
In an effort to cut down on "repeated" events, except for announcements of programs offered by cabaret membership organizations, and shows where guests change weekly, cabaret news items will usually appear just once in the newsletter. The CABARET NEWS pages on the website are updated regularly, and cover all areas of the world.

SPECIAL LATE BREAKING NEWS
I am sure you will find information in this issue you haven't read anywhere else - at least until today! Please note that in most instances more detailed information and photo are on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website. Just click on the links provided.

REMINDER REGARDING CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE DISCOUNTS
To be eligible for a listing on the MEMBER DEALS page you must send in your flier, press release and/or other promotional materials clearly showing the discount offer. That information will be used as the basis for the MEMBER DEALS page notice, as well as for the newsletter listing. Please be sure to check with the venue where you are performing to be sure that these discounts will be honored.

Any member who is denied a properly listed CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE discount should notify me at once. I cannot guarantee that the discount will be honored, but I can take steps to contact the parties involved and publish the facts in the newsletter and remove the listing from the MEMBER DEALS page.

ABOUT CABARET NEWS IN THE NEWSLETTER AND ON THE WEBSITE
Information about other shows around the country and around the world can be found on the CABARET NEWS page of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website. How do you get an item posted in the CABARET NEWS section of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website? Just e-mail me a press release of at least four paragraphs, giving the complete information on your show, CD release or other cabaret related event. Include photos in jpg or gif format if available. Please send me complete information - and do not merely e-mail me a copy of your flier or a reference to a website.

By the way, I usually trim quotes from reviews from the press releases I receive before using the item on my website or in the newsletter, so don't count them when putting together the four or more paragraphs. And, please, please don't send in your press release with all those annoying html links (with embedded photos, distracting backgrounds, etc.), or simply a .jpg of your post card or as one of those "e-vite" things that require me to "click to open" and lead to a web page somewhere. Just send in your press release or listings request in simple .txt format (the format I write these issues in and use for the website).

IT'S TIME TO GO
Near the top of this newsletter I promised that you would read things in this issue you will not find published anywhere else. Did I keep my promise?

Your membership donations support this publication and the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website. If you enjoy the fruits of our efforts and would like to support us, why not join as a supporting member? Your donation is most important to me, not just to pay for my food, cable, phone, DSL and rent, etc., but also as a confirmation of your appreciation. Can you please help?

For information on becoming a member of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, just click on the JOIN HERE button on the website. You can even make your membership donation by credit card, using PayPal. If you prefer not to use a credit card and PayPal, you can send a check made out simply to Stu Hamstra and mail it to CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, 676A Ninth Avenue #120, NY, NY 10036.

I realize that there is probably far more information here than you might be able to digest in one reading, but please keep in mind that for the performers mentioned, CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE is one of the few publications that spread the word about their shows and performances. To them, that item about their show is most important, and the fact that every issue published is also posted on my website means another place where they can be found by fans and search engines (Google, etc.) alike. Your membership donations make this all possible.

Please support these newsletters and the website, and help me cover cabaret events by joining CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE this week. I truly believe that everyone receiving these e-mails and everyone who visits the website and the blog are receiving value far higher than the minimal $20 annual SILVER membership. I am spreading the news about you - your friends - performers all over the world - twice a week by e-mail and every day on the web. I need your support to do this. Joining as a supporting member is so simple - you don't even have to find a stamp or an envelope: just click on the JOIN HERE button on the website.

Thanks to the folks that sent in donations - several very generous ones - to help us make the move to the new space. If you want to help out with a gift it would be most appreciated.

And that is just about the way it was.

Hugs & Stuff,

STU
