Any tickets cancelled will be distributed to folks on the waiting list.

THERE WILL BE NO WAITING LIST SEATS AVAILABLE AT THE CLUB THE DAY OF THE SHOW - those without tickets should not come to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM on the 6th to see if there were any "no shows" - we will not be able to sell any tickets that day even if there are seats available.

To add your name to the waiting list for possible cancellations, just go to the website and click on the line that says CABARET HOTLINE'S 17th BIRTHDAY PARTY TICKETS ON SALE NOW! HERE & THERE
This is and has been a very busy week for me personally, not just cabaret every night, but also getting caught up on a number of personal matters that were set aside the last month or so. Plus, today is the first day of summer and here in NYC that also means it is Gay Pride week with gay themed events throughout the city culminating in the festive parade down (or is it up?) Fifth Avenue on Sunday. I really don't know for sure which direction since I sort of stay away from town on Gay Pride parade day.

Before I go any further, I want to again send a huge apology to all for the glaring typo in Monday's newsletter. The two theater stars Tommy Tune and Thommie Walsh have been linked together in my mind for a few dozen years - ever since I saw the show that won them TONY awards, "A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine" - one of the most cleverly staged and choreographed shows ever presented on Broadway. So in my announcement of the death of Thommie Walsh on Monday I substituted Tommy Tune in the first sentence. One reader caught it right away and I was able to change it one about 1/3 the copies sent out (because of anti-spam rules, I have to send out the newsletters in batches of less than 100 and it takes me about 20 minutes to send them all off). I also immediately put up a correction on the message board and on the home page of the website.

In fact, I received over 70 e-mails within about 2 hours pointing out my error, and discovered that (unknown to me) some really big names in cabaret and Broadway receive and read my newsletters! And they read them almost as soon as published! When I send out an issue, I always sort of wonder if anyone actually reads them. Now I know. Hats off to Jaymie Meyer, who was the first in with the correction, closely followed by George Winters (who loves to find my typos). I might just make more "glaring typos" from time to time - feels sort of good to know who is reading these newsletters. Interesting fact: only ONE person I write about in these issue from time to time, sends an immediate thank you - and I usually have about 200 names or more every issue. I have a news item about him in today's issue - lets see if he responds according to form.

Regarding funeral arrangements, etc. for Thommie Walsh, the funeral will take place in Auburn, NY, Thommie's home town. A wake will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, June 22nd at THE SPRINGSIDE INN (6141 West Lake Road, Fleming, NY). It will be followed by personal stories, songs and dances performed by Walsh's friends from New York's theater community. A service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday the 23rd in THE SACRED HEART CHURCH (90 Melrose Road, Auburn, NY). A memorial service is slated for a later date in New York City.

Thanks, I assume, to John Hoglund's AFTER DARK column, which was added to the website early Monday morning, visits to the website have nearly doubled so far this week - and the AFTER DARK page shot up to #1 - even surpassing the page counts for the MESSAGE BOARD which is usually the most popular page on the site. John reports receiving tons of e-mails congratulating him for the article. If you haven't seen it yet, it is found by clicking on the button marked REVIEWS in the rows of buttons at the top of every page on the website. Then follow the links from there.

Hats off to MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets - http://www.macnyc.com/ ) for their completely revised website - they must have been working on it yesterday because I tried to find out about a MAC meeting that was apparently held yesterday - no one sent me a press release (or even an invitation as a MAC member) and yesterday all there was was a green screen. Sorry I couldn't give you all some information about the meeting - if I'm not told, I cannot tell you about it. At least someone on Tuesday posted an item about it on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE message board.

Again I was able to include all "usable" news items sent me in today's issue on events through July. Once again I had to discard several items because the event was too close to publication date and the article was incomplete and arrived in the past day or two, not giving me enough time to get proper details and information. Please read over the item titled ABOUT CABARET NEWS IN THE NEWSLETTER AND ON THE WEBSITE near the bottom of this issue to see exactly what I am talking about. I want to help you sell tickets to your cabaret related event, but (as I said above) if I don't hear about it, I can't write about it.

Time to go - more news on Monday (if folks send news in).

ABOUT CABARET NEWS IN THE NEWSLETTER AND ON THE WEBSITE
Information about other shows around the country and around the world can be found on the CABARET NEWS page of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website. How do you get an item posted in the CABARET NEWS section of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website? Just e-mail me a press release of at least four paragraphs, giving the complete information on your show, CD release or other cabaret related event. Include photos in jpg or gif format if available. Please send me complete information - and do not merely e-mail me a copy of your flier or a reference to a website.

By the way, I usually trim quotes from reviews from the press releases I receive before using the item on my website or in the newsletter, so don't count them when putting together the four or more paragraphs. And, please, please don't send in your press release with all those annoying html links (with embedded photos, distracting backgrounds, etc.), or simply a .jpg of your post card or as one of those "e-vite" things that require me to "click to open" and lead to a web page somewhere. Just send in your press release or listings request in simple .txt format (the format I write these issues in and use for the website).

IT'S TIME TO GO
Near the top of this newsletter I promised that you would read things in this issue you will not find published anywhere else. Did I keep my promise?

Your membership donations support this publication and the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website. If you enjoy the fruits of our efforts and would like to support us, why not join as a supporting member? Your donation is most important to me, not just to pay for my food, cable, phone, DSL and rent, etc., but also as a confirmation of your appreciation. Can you please help?

For information on becoming a member of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, just click on the JOIN HERE button on the website. You can even make your membership donation by credit card, using PayPal. If you prefer not to use a credit card and PayPal, you can send a check made out simply to Stu Hamstra and mail it to CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, 676A Ninth Avenue #120, NY, NY 10036.

I realize that there is probably far more information here than you might be able to digest in one reading, but please keep in mind that for the performers mentioned, CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE is one of the few publications that spread the word about their shows and performances. To them, that item about their show is most important, and the fact that every issue published is also posted on my website means another place where they can be found by fans and search engines (Google, etc.) alike. Your membership donations make this all possible.

And that is just about the way it was.

Hugs & Stuff,

STU
