Returning for the first time since it was initially staged in 2004, JOE'S PUB IN THE PARK captures the quality and range of performances that have made Joe's Pub, now in its ninth year of providing music at its downtown home, one of the most acclaimed and popular clubs in New York City. Pub in the Park brings that talent and diversity into The Public Theater's most visible and accessible venue, the annual home of Shakespeare in the Park. HERE & THERE
I just checked my calendar to see what I had planned for myself for the next couple of days and noticed that I had not been to a single cabaret show since Monday's newsletter went out. In fact, the last cabaret event I attended was last week Friday night. This is due to a combination of circumstances - low funds and fairly empty cabaret schedules. Someone from Australia sent me a note yesterday to say he and some friends were visiting NYC for a few days and wanted my suggestions as to cabaret shows to catch - and I could only recommend one for last night (a show I had already seen) and one for tonight (which I plan to go to). I also suggested SETH'S BROADWAY CHATTERBOX for tonight, but that is an interview show, not really a cabaret show. But it is always interesting and sometimes most entertaining.

In fact, you might have noticed that I discontinued the NYC Picks section in these twice-weekly newsletters: there have been so few shows to choose from, it hardly seemed worth the effort. In fact, if you were planning on any cabaret this weekend, you just might see me there as well, since there are so few cabaret events scheduled.

For that reason, and due to the fact that Monday is a holiday here in the USA, there will be no issue on Monday of the newsletter - all will be combined in the MID-WEEK issue - hopefully going out on Wednesday the 5th of September instead of the usual Thursday. Check the message board on the website for any special news items that can't wait for the MID-WEEK issue - and we will continue to ad news items to the website as they come in.

Over the weekend I plan to do some fixing up here in the apartment - I bought a set of bookshelves a week after I moved here and want to finally set them up and unpack my 4 cartons of CDs - and 2 other cartons of stuff I have never gotten around to unpacking since I moved back to Manhattan in mid-April! I can't wait actually - there are a few items packed in those boxes somewhere I really miss but simply have been to busy to look for.

We signed up 300 CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE members before Labor Day - dare we shoot for 400 members by Columbus Day? (October 8th? It is all up to you, folks. There are over 2,700 subscribers to this twice-weekly newsletter - with just 300 folks "footing the bill." If you truly enjoy these newsletters, if you fully appreciate what CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE is all about, if you really want to support us in our efforts to expand and promote the art - and the artists of cabaret, now is the time to send us your support by joining this week - a basic SILVER membership is only $20, but that $20 means so much to me - and the performers we write about, and have been writing about for over 17 years. Click the button JOIN HERE at the top of every page on the website for information on membership choices and benefits. You can join instantly by credit card using PayPal or by check. Please remember, all checks should be made out simply to STU HAMSTRA and mailed to 75-22 37th Avenue #35 - Jackson Heights, NY 11372.

This very long issue includes all the news items and press releases covering events through September 22nd - I don't want to get too far ahead of things since most items only get a chance in the newsletter once (see section near the bottom of this issue about articles appearing on the web and in the newsletter. I figure if I stay three weeks ahead, the news will continue to be current and fresh. This issue has news items from LA & San Francisco, South Africa, Chicago, New Hope, Boston, and more - in addition to a stack of NYC items. And the news keeps coming in. Note that many of the items in this issue are linked to more detailed stories on the website - often including photos. Just click on the link - then close the Web site browser to get back to the newsletter.

I can't write about you - your show, your CD - unless you write to me first. This is a "one-person operation" and I simply don't have time to sift through club schedules and websites to find out about your event - you have to send me an e-mail and let me know about it. I is so easy - and it is completely free! I love cabaret, and I want to see it grow and thrive. That's what this is all about. But I need you to keep supplying me with material to write about. Near the bottom of every issue is a section entitled ABOUT CABARET NEWS IN THE NEWSLETTER AND ON THE WEBSITE which outlines what it is you need to send to have your item published.

Over the weekend I will also be working on a new project for the website - I don't want to say too much until it is an actual fact, but hopefully it will be up and running before the next issue. Stay tuned. Meantime, I am going to send this off and start unpacking the bookcases. Have a great weekend - and I will check back with you all MID-WEEK.

CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE WANTS TO HELP YOU PROMOTE YOUR CD

ABOUT CABARET NEWS IN THE NEWSLETTER AND ON THE WEBSITE
How do you get an item posted in the CABARET NEWS section of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website and in the newsletter? It is really quite simple.

Just e-mail me a press release of at least four or five paragraphs, giving the complete information on your show, CD release or other cabaret related event. Include photos in jpg or gif format if available. Please send me complete information - and do not merely e-mail me a copy of your flier or a reference to a website. By the way, I usually trim quotes from reviews from the press releases I receive before using the item on my website or in the newsletter, so don't count them when putting together the four or more paragraphs. If you don't have a press release, just click here: http://.svhamstra.com/PressRelease1.shtml and fill out the information as completely as possible - or use the items asked for as a guide to the information I need.

Just send in your press release or listings request in simple txt format if possible (the format I write these issues in and use for the website), and send any photos as attachments, not imbedded within the e-mail. And, please, please don't send, instead of a press release, one of those e-mails with all those annoying html links (with multi-columns, embedded photos, distracting backgrounds, etc.) Do not send simply a .jpg of your post card. Do not send us one of those "e-vite" things that require us to "click to open" and lead to a web page somewhere. I never open them! The more information the better - it is easier for me to trim the release than to hunt and google websites for more information.

We usually run articles about 3 weeks before event date if possible so it is wisest to send your release about 4 weeks in advance. Because of the large number of items received, we can only use news of event just once, so we try not to get too far ahead in the news. There are a few exceptions to the "just once" rule:

â If the event is advertised on the website it will be repeated in each MONDAY issue of the newsletter

â If the event offers a discount to members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE it will be included in the DISCOUNTS section of each MID-WEEK issue of the newsletter.

âMajor benefits where ALL proceeds are given to the charity named will be mentioned in every issue as well as major cabaret events like cabaret festivals and galas.

We also include at least once each week those regular (monthly, weekly, etc.) events with guests who change each performance, like SETH'S BROADWAY CHATTERBOX, BOB EGAN'S MONDAY SHOWCASE and the like.

IT'S TIME TO GO
Near the top of this newsletter I promised that you would read things in this issue you will not find published anywhere else. Did I keep my promise?

I realize that there is probably far more information here than you might be able to digest in one reading, but please keep in mind that for the performers mentioned, CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE is one of the few publications that spread the word about their shows and performances. To them, that item about their show is most important, and the fact that every issue published is also posted on my website means another place where they can be found by fans and search engines (Google, etc.) alike.

One more reminder - all current memberships for CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE expired on Thursday, July 5th 2007. You can renew (or get a new) membership almost instantly on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website, using a credit card. Just click on the button at the top of every page of the website marked JOIN HERE. Or you can mail your check, made out simply to Stu Hamstra to 75-22 37th Avenue #35 - Jackson Heights, NY 11372. Memberships are available at several levels with varying benefits. Basic membership (which can be upgraded at any time with full credit) is $20 (SILVER). You membership dollars support the website, the newsletter, the blog and other activities of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE. Support CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE as it promotes the art and artists of cabaret.

And that is just about the way it was.

Hugs & Stuff,

STU
