APRIL-MAY BANNER AD SALE ANNOUNCED
Big announcement today is our special APRIL-MAY banner sale! We're offering a 25% discount off of all banner prices (does not include side-bar ads) for all banners running for the 9 weeks between March 28th and May 29th - if your ad run starts before or after those dates, those weeks will be charged at the regular rate. This is our biggest discount offer ever! Its a great deal if you want to get your name in front of MAC voters during the month of April (the final MAC sballots go out on March 27th). And GOLD members get the discount in addition to their usual 20% discount for all banners run in a membership year! That's 45% off! (50% off if you use PayPal - see next paragraph.) SILVER members who have not yet run a banner this membership year get a $20 rebate applied to the cost.
You may pay using PayPal (and get an additional 5% discount if the net total is more than $100) or pay by check - as long as your payment is here before the banner is set to start its run. Do not send payment until we confirm your space is available.
Some restrictions apply: Banner must run at least 3 weeks continuous. Banner MUST be paid for in advance in full. The number of banners is limited each week so it would be prudent to place your order as soon as possible - your order is not considered "booked" until payment is actually received. We will notify you at once if all slots are filled under this deal. This discount offer is open to ALL. Just let me know: what weeks you want the banner to run and what size banner you wish to run. If your weeks are available, I'll send you an invoice which you can use to pay using PayPal or print out and send with your check.
HERE & THERE - PART I
Beware the Ides of March. I wonder if kids today are still taught that phrase in school? But that's what today is - and so at least beware of "back stabbers".
It also means that Spring is just a week away, and the way the weather has been around here, it can't come any too soon. Over the last few days we've had nearly 5 inches of rain here in NYC (even more across the river in New Jersey) and everything is a soggy mess. Umbrellas were useless Saturday when I had to run to the store - the winds have been gusting up to 50-60 mph, and probably more so between the tall buildings in my neighborhood. There were umbrella skeletons everywhere. One more day of rain today, and then some sunshine is predicted.
I was finally able to post the 2010 BISTRO AWARDS winners list on the website ( http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/ ), as well as some details about the awards gala on Tuesday, April 13th at GOTHAM COMEDY CLUB. There's a link to all the information on the opening page. Congratulations to all the recipients (since it isn't really a contest, I guess you shouldn't say winners). Details on the event below in the listings.
Congratulations to the folks at the RRAZZ ROOM in San Francisco, celebrating their 2nd Anniversary on Wednesday, March 17th - St. Patrick's Day - with a load of stars of cabaret, stage & film. Plus, it's a benefit for Haiti Relief/American Red Cross - see listings below.
I hope you saw the April-May banner ad sale item at the top of this issue. Let's face it, we're having a "fire sale." Ad income has fallen through the floor, and we're really looking forward to a lean few weeks until the next SS check comes in in mid-April. There are some "receivables" out there, but from the paying pattern lately of those owing me money, they're probably having a difficult time of it right now as well. That's why the banner sale is "cash in advance" only.
For MAC nominees (to be announced on March 25th), this could be a boon - even if they don't have a show coming up in April or May. Don't forget, your advertised event or CD is mentioned in every issue of the twice-weekly CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE newsletter as long as your ad is running - and in the Saturday newsletter the week of your show if you're offering a CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE discount, plus on the website - http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/ - visited more than 6000 times a day (during MARCH IS CABARET MONTH we're getting nearly 10,000 hits - all ads appear as well on http://www.MarchIsCabaret.com/ ).
Speaking of MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets), their website is still down (as of this morning, anyway) so I wasn't able to check on any upcoming dates for MAC events. Check in the listings below for the MAC events that I do have information about. The MAC Preliminary Ballots were due today - by mail, which means if you didn't mail it on Friday, it is probably too late. That is unless they revised the instructions and deadline information sent with the ballots.
I received a press release over the weekend from THE TOWN HALL about the next "Broadway By The Year" show, which will be Monday night, March 22nd at 8:00 pm, at (naturally) THE TOWN HALL. See listings below for details, but I must add that the the first show of the series in February was fantastic! Top talent - top performances! One of these days I am going to "hit the wall" proclaiming each show "the best show yet", but the February one truly deserved the plaudit. The TOWN HALL (1500 seats) was very nearly sold out, so if you're planning on going to the show on the 22nd, get thee to a phone/computer and order your tickets pronto. Melissa Manchester is the featured guest star, and the year celebrated is 1948.
More HERE & THERE items appear at the bottom of this issue - including any last minute news items that come in just before we "go to press" and more comments and commentary on the art and artists of cabaret. And even more news can be found on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE BLOG http://cabarethotlineonline.blogspot.com/

Vocalist Mike Schuil brings his show "Toes In The Sand" to THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 1-212-255-5438 - http://www.theduplex.com/ ) on Friday, March 19th at 7:00 pm. The show marks Mike Schuil's return to New York cabaret for the first time since his well-received debut, "Songs From Across The River - Springsteen & Sinatra." This time he ventures a bit further afield from his native New Jersey for a mostly Brazilian evening of songs both lighthearted and dramatic. It's a warm, tropical breeze on a cold winter's night. Working with a trio of accomplished musicians (Wells Hanley on piano, Peter Brendler on bass, and Jeff Davis on drums) and teaming once again with director Gerry Geddes, Mike takes a big step forward as a cabaret performer. The show features songs by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Stephen Bishop, Richard Rodney Bennett and others. Of course, not wanting to journey too far away from his roots, there will be a few Sinatra moments, and even a bit of Bruce. His smooth vocals combined with the simmering sounds of his trio promise that "Toes In The Sand" should be a delightful trip south of the border. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

She lends her shimmering soprano to the contemporary works of Sondheim, Guettel, and Yeston along the way. Musical direction & arrangements are by Ido Alexander and the show is directed by Eric Michael Gillett. Rodgers and Hart were on to something when they wrote about the noble pursuit of singing for one's supper. Sigali wants nothing more than to do just that. Her theater work includes roles inThe King & I, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, She Loves Me, The Mikado, Country Club, and A Christmas Carol. More recently she finds at home on the cabaret stage singing the standards, both classic and contemporary, from the American songbook to Broadway. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

SATURDAY - APRIL 10th
NYC: CALLING ALL ANGELS TO BENEFIT GREGORY KENNELL
FEATURED CABARET BENEFIT EVENT
John Hoglund and Geri Malino present CALLING ALL ANGELS, a special cabaret show to benefit Gregory Kennell at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATER (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909 - http://www.westbankcafe.com/ ) on Saturday, April 10th at 2:00 pm. A musical brunch with Jerry Scott and friends will begin at 1:00 pm. Performers scheduled to appear as of this date are Tom Andersen, Esther Beckman, David Brian Colbert, Joyce Breach, Scott Coulter, Cynthia Crane, John De Marco, Baby Jane Dexter, Lina Koutrakos, Sue Matsuki, Julie Reyburn, Steve Ross, Jerry Scott, Marcus Simeone, Tracy Stark, KT Sullivan as well as some very special surprise guests from cabaret and theater. As with all live entertainment events, performers are subject to change without notice. Aside from presenting some extraordinary talent, Calling All Angels is being produced to raise much needed funds for the ongoing therapeutic process necessary to help Greg Kennell regain motor skills and return to a normal life after almost two months in a coma at St. Vincent's Hospital as a result of demyelinating encephalitis and related consequences. Miraculously, Greg has recently regained the ability to communicate with limited speech. However, he remains paralyzed and confined to St. Elizabeth Ann?s Health Care & Rehabilitation Facility on Staten Island where he receives minimal rehabilitation therapy. Friends and loved ones offer ongoing support but so much more professional help is needed for his rehabilitation - and survival. Gregory Kennell has designed numerous graphic art for albums (Julie Reyburn, Craig Rubano, Marcus Simeone, etc.) as well as stunning logos and ads for numerous magazines, newspapers (including The NY Times, The Algonquin Hotel, etc.) and fliers. He is a gifted artist and craftsman and is highly regarded in his field. Greg also served as a board of director for MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets) for several years. There is a $25 cover ($50 VIP) plus a $15 food/drink minimum.
For those who cannot attend and/or would like to make a donation to help, please make checks payable to Geri Malino who is in charge of finances for the soon to be formed Gregory Kennelll Foundation. Checks can be mailed directly to Geri Malino at 54 West 16th Street, Ste. 16C, New York, NY 10011.

MORE "HERE & THERE" PART II
Once again I call your attention to the special benefit on behalf of Gregory Kennell to be held on Saturday, April 10th at 2:00 pm at THE LAURIE BEECHMAN. Re-check the listing above, since over the weekend several new stars were added to the cast. Here's another instance where I strongly advise you to get to a phone and place your reservations. As I noted with the MARCH IS CABARET MONTH GALA, the room has a way of filling fast - and brunch is served at 1:00 pm, with Jerry Scott entertaining at the piano - showtime is promptly at 2:00 pm. We have a special interest in promoting this show - Gregory designed our logo! (gratis, I might add).
Did you remember to add the line MARCH IS CABARET MONTH to your website, with a link to http://www.MarchIsCabaret.com/ ? If you did, please send me an e-mail with your website address so I can add the link to the MARCH IS CABARET MONTH website! And, please add the phrase MARCH IS CABARET MONTH to your emails, show/CD promotional announcements and releases, and (if possible) to your fliers and post cards promoting events in March.
Once again I ask for your help in financing this venture. CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE was started to promote cabaret and especially the performers who entertain us week after week with very little reward except your applause. And we continue with that as our only goal. We're not on an ego trip here (I'm a shy guy and prefer to be in the background). We're doing this all - 3 newsletters a week, 3 cabaret-themed websites plus a blog, 4 Twitter accounts - all promoting cabaret and live entertainment. And we are constantly trying to figure out more ways to promote the cabaret art form and the artists we love.
Times are tough - we gave away over 50 memberships this year to cabaret folks who couldn't afford to join so they could take advantage of discounts offered and rebates on banner ads. So, we're asking only those who can afford to help to give us support - especially over the next 3 months before our new membership year begins.
If you have read this far, then I know you appreciate cabaret and the work we're doing. Please help. Please remember, all checks should be made out simply to STU HAMSTRA and mailed to 676A Ninth Avenue #120, New York, NY 10036. Donations by credit card can be made via the website using PayPal.
And that's just about the way it was. I still have a lot more to tell you about but we've run out of space so the rest will have to wait until Thursday's issue.
Thanks for your support of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE! Remember, MARCH IS CABARET MONTH!
