It it's anything to do with cabaret, you'll probably read it here first!

FIND OUT ABOUT BECOMING A CONTRIBUTING MEMBER OF CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
AT http://svhamstra.com/Membership.shtml or send me a note at membership@svhamstra.com.

Naturally, after I sent out the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE #010908 issue on Sunday, I discovered a bunch of items that I was going to include but forgot. So, before we get too far into the month, this issue is meant to build on the last issue, namely shows and other cabaret-related events to look for in the weeks to come.

There are several new "September 11" benefits listed on the website (http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/NewsBenefitsWTC.shtml ) including one in Australia - also mentioned in this issue. If you have news of a cabaret related benefit in this category, be sure to send it in as soon as possible - with as many details as possible, to stuhamstra@svhamstra.com.

Once again memberships in CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE have slowed to a trickle, and I am not surprised, since all of us have opened our hearts to the folks who lost jobs, loved ones, businesses and lives in the disaster that struck us three weeks ago. My needs pale in comparison to those hurt directly by these events. I think that all of us have been reexamining our priorities these past few days, myself included. Many have written me about their own personal feelings and thoughts - I could not answer them all, but one in particular stands out. I received it a week or so ago, and want to share it with you. It is from Kate Peters, one of my former employers at DATA INTO ACTION in Fullerton, CA.

>>>>>>>>>

Stu,

Your notes to your readers about the events of the week have been great. Thanks for sharing your thoughts as well as those of others. It does not feel like life will ever be the same again.

Stu, this week's events have made me, like so many others I'm sure, look closely at what is really important and at what I can possibly do to help in this time of such huge challenges. My soul searching has led me to realize that now, more than ever, our young people will need a place to share their thoughts and feelings with their peers and their communities, as well as a place to have some fun and express themselves musically. Therefore, I have chosen to re-dedicate myself to moving "Team Cabaret" forward. My life is very full, and I have not felt I could give it as much time over the past year as some other things. However, I've now decided to give it as much time as it takes to make it available to those who need it. I am very proud of this program and have seen it work wonders in the lives of many young people.

Just to remind you, Team Cabaret is designed to be "a safe place for young people to share what has heart and meaning through story and song and be applauded for it." It is a program that teaches performing skills along side of leadership and team work skills, as well as providing a place where they get to discover and discuss what is important to them. The program consists of workshops that lead up to a showcase performance where each participant delivers a personal monologue along with a song of his or her choosing. The facilitators (who are performing arts educators and/or performers) are trained in a unique approach that involves dialog as well as many performer/acting exercises.

I would like to ask you to let people in the cabaret community know that my staff and I are quite ready now to move Team Cabaret forward anywhere that it is wanted. I need performers and educators who are willing to learn this unique approach. I do have funding for the program. Please let your readers know that if they are interested in knowing more about the program, they should go to http://www.teamcabaret.org/, and/or e-mail me at kate.peters@narratus.com.

Thanks again, and take care,

Kate

I have personally met some of the teenagers who were enrolled in the "Team Cabaret" program on my visits to Fullerton last year. I have also met some of the students that Ellen Hollander has been instructing in the art of cabaret in the WALL TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL in New Jersey. If you are a parent of a teenager (High School) or en educator, music teacher or a friend of one, please write to Kate and get information about this dynamic program that has been of benefit to so many young people. Visit the website for some interesting testimonials, and promote this program in your local area if you can.

Kate Peters in one of the busiest people I know - a mother, an business executive, a vocal coach, a cabaret performer, a recording artist and involved in civic and charitable causes in the Orange County area. As a leader and one of the founders of the "Team Cabaret" program, I know that this program will go forward with renewed vigor.
