Since 1990 Your First, Best, and Only Complete Source of Cabaret News
If it's anything to do
with cabaret, you'll probably read it here first!
This promises to be a
short issue, since I have so much work to catch up on. I will have
a full report on my trip to Chicago on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
website (http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/),
but meantime let me just say that it was the most eventful weekend
I have ever had in all my 63+ years! My report will be called "Stu's
Excellent Chicago Adventure" - watch for it. The trip took a bit longer
than expected, and yesterday I spent the day in bed with a bad cold
- I only slept about 3 or 4 hours on the train on the way back on
Monday-Tuesday, and I guess this allowed one of those cold germs to
sneak into my system. Consequently, this issue is going out a day
late.
As you will read in my
report on the trip, expenses ran a lot more than budgeted, so if anyone
would like to help support the costs of the trip (by helping me pay
down my credit card so that I can attend future events), you can send
in a special RUBY SUPPORTER donation. For information on making a
RUBY SUPPORTER of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, check at http://svhamstra.com/Membership2002Ruby.shtml
or else just send me a note at ruby@svhamstra.com
with the single word "Ruby" in the subject line, and I'll send all
the details.
The first reports from
Todd Shuman on the convention are also being posted on the website,
and I just sent out the Top-25 list for 2000 to all CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE members, and will post a more complete report, with mini-reviews
and photos, on each of the 25 cabaret shows chosen as soon as I can
get all the photos together.
For those who have sent
in press releases, etc., please don't resend them - I am working hard
to catch up and I anticipated working on the train using my iBook,
only to discover that, unlike the AMTRAK trains that run between Boston
and DC, the overnight trains to Chicago do not have electric outlets
in the coach cars. This meant I could only work a few hours before
my battery ran down.
This Sunday, February
23rd, EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN, on the Radio over WBAI 99.5 FM
and on the Internet at http://www.2600.com/offthehook/hot2.ram,
has been extended by one hour, and can be heard from 8:00 to 11:00
pm (ET). Host David Kenney will present the EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW
AGAIN Fundraiser. Be sure to tune in and pledge your support!
In addition to a panel
discussion, David will present live in-studio performances by cast
members from shows and recordings. All members of the Broadway and
Cabaret Community and lovers of The American Popular Songbook should
call 212-209-2950 or visit the station's website at http://www.wbai.org/
during the broadcast to make a pledge.
Keep this sound of music
alive on New York Airwaves and on the Internet. Here's how you can
help: Make a $50.00 pledge for a full year membership or make a $25.00
pledge for a full year membership for those with a low-fixed income.
If you make a $75.00 pledge for a full year membership, you will receive
HIGHLIGHT CD Recording of the broadcast! Tune In for more information
on CDs and Books being offered to new members who pledge during the
show.
You are invited to email
your comments and suggestions to David Kenney at: oldisnew@earthlink.net.
REMINDER: We have no BANNER
AD spaces left on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website for the rest
of February, as well as the first week in March. Remaining slots are
selling out quickly for the rest of March (CABARET MONTH). Note that
we limit the ads to 20 banners per week, so if you plan to order a
banner, reserve your banner space as soon as possible.
For information on banner
ads, check out the banner information page on the CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE website (http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/BannerHere.shtml),
or simply send me a note at banners@svhamstra.com
with the single word "Banner" in the subject line and I'll send all
the details.

HOTLINE ONLINE, you don't have to fill out a form, you don't need
one of those dreaded passwords. All you need to do is follow the rules
- clearly posted on the board. I will remove your message if I deem
it inappropriate. Fully 70% of visitors to the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE

CABARET MONTH is just
a few days away, in many parts of the country and even the world.
The month-long March celebration was originally started by MAC (Manhattan
Association of Cabarets & Clubs) to promote cabaret attendance in
what was normally a slow month in the clubs. CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
wants to promote your CABARET MONTH shows and activities anywhere,
so send in you special press releases for inclusion on the website
and also in the newsletter.
Here in NYC, CABARET MONTH
is normally "book ended" by the BACK STAGE Bistro Awards at the beginning
of March, and the Annual MAC Awards at the end of the month. Look
to CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE to keep you informed of these two special
events, as well as other CABARET MONTH events wherever they happen.
The 18th Annual MAC Awards
show will be held at SYMPHONY SPACE (Broadway at 95th Street - 212-864-1414)
on Monday, April 14th at 7:30 pm.
BACK STAGE Bistro Awards
date and location, as well as this year's award winners, will be announced
in next week's special CABARET issue, on the newsstands on Thursday,
February 27th.
For those folks who want
to keep their name in front of folks while the MAC (Manhattan Association
of Cabarets & Clubs - http://www.macnyc.com/)
voters make their choices on the preliminary and final ballots, our
web pages are read from 20,000 to 30,000 times per day by cabaret
lovers all over the world. Your ad banner will appear at random on
nearly all 1800+ pages - in full color if you wish - with a link to
your website for no extra charge.
Those running banners
will get mentioned in every issue of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE e-mail
newsletter as long as the banner is running. We have nearly 2,500
subscribers - the most readers of ANY cabaret-only publication (print
or e-mail)! You can even pay for your banner by credit card via PayPal
- http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/PayPalPayment.shtml
and get a discount, if the total cost of the run is over $100. For
example, a 3-week ad, paid for by credit card, would cost less than
$35 per week! And a 4-week ad, by this method, would cost just $33.35
per week.
Your advertising dollars
will help me continue to promote the art of cabaret on the website,
publish the e-mail newsletter, and make visits to various cabaret
events and performances locally and around the country.
AS PROMISED: Each weekly
issue of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE newsletter includes a rundown
of all the banner advertisers on the website - and these items will
be repeated as long as the banner is running. Here is news about the
folks whose banners are currently appearing on the CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE website.

DON'T OVERLOOK THIS OPPORTUNITY
TO PROMOTE YOUR WEBSITE!
Cabaret performers can
also request a link to their website on the Performers Links pages
on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website - you don't need to be a member.
You should check this section just to make sure your name is listed
and properly linked. See http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/CabaretLinksIndex.shtml
While there, see if there
is another category on the page that you should be linked through
as well - Songwriter, Director, Videographer, etc. You do not have
to be a member to have a link on these pages. Please tell your friends
about this section of the website - eventually we hope it will become
sort of a "Cabaret Yellow Pages" section where you can find hundreds
of resources in putting together your show or recording your CD.
Remember, you need a website
to be linked. An e-mail address is not sufficient.
Information about other
shows around the country and around the world can be found on the
BREAKING NEWS page of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website (http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/)
as well as in the LISTINGS section. I have also been adding piano
bar and lounge listings for all areas. New items are added almost
daily!
How do you get an item
posted in the BREAKING NEWS section of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
website? Just e-mail me a press release of at least four paragraphs,
giving the complete information on your show, CD release or other
cabaret related event. Include photos in jpg or gif format if available.
But please send me complete information - and do not merely send a
copy of your flier. By the way, I usually trim quotes from reviews
from the press releases I receive before using the item on my website
or in the newsletter, so don't count them when putting together the
four or more paragraphs.
Here's another reason
to be a member of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE: All members have the opportunity
to have their CDs available for sale via the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
website. SILVER MEMBERS can display one CD on their page, GOLD MEMBERS
and above can display up to four CDs (additional CDs - GOLD or above
members only - can be added, if requested, at $15 each). The CD FOR
SALE listing includes a special page under your name, displaying your
CD cover(s) and a link to a website of your choice where the CD may
be purchased. You can link to your own website, or to LML Music, CD
Baby, Amazon, or some other site. This benefit is by request, so if
you already are a member, please let me know if you wish to be linked
in this section of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE - see http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/MemberCDSales2002.shtml.
If you CD FOR SALE page is already posted, please check to see if
the link is correct and if it is working properly. I need a copy of
your CD or a jpg scan of the CD cover in order to build the page.
If you appreciate what
we are doing, and would like to see CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE not just
continue, but also grow, please consider becoming a member this week.
