CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE #031103 - Monday, November 10, 2003
Since 1990 Your First, Best, and Only Complete Source of Cabaret News

If it's anything to do with cabaret, you'll probably read it here first!

This is a MONDAY Issue of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE which includes cabaret listings for around the world, and also includes information on all the banner ads running on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website plus more news, breaking stories and notes. The MID-WEEK issue, normally sent on Thursdays, includes more news, breaking stories and notes, news on shows offering discounts to members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, plus mini-reviews on shows I have seen.

The cold weather has arrived - whatever happened to "Fall" in NYC? Last week I wrote that the trees outside my window had changed from green to gold. In less than we week they changed from gold to bare! We will get a little relief from the subfreezing nighttime temperatures in mid-week, but meantime, I am searching for my longjohns.

It was so cold here this weekend, I stayed home on Saturday night. I really needed a break, since I had attended at least two shows a night, every night since last Sunday - and no two shows in the same venue any of those nights. This coming week, except for tonight, I have nearly the same full calendar.

SAD NEWS - WES MCAFEE

Longtime NYC-based musical director, accompanist and arranger Wes McAfee passed away on Saturday morning, November 8th after fighting a gallant but unfortunately losing battle with lung cancer. There will be a memorial some time in the near future, details still to be arranged.

OFFERING A DISCOUNT? PLEASE LET ME KNOW

Every day I get another note from a performer who has decided to offer a special show discount to members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE. I have trouble keeping the MEMBER DEALS page on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website (http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/) up to date. I am hopeful that more performers will offer these discounts outside the NYC area (where permitted) so that the members outside of NYC can take advantage of this special membership benefit. Remember, unless your show is sold-out far in advance, giving a discount to members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE does not cost you anything - and you don't only sell that empty seat, you may gain a new fan, who will come to your future shows! Plus, your show will get a mention in the MID-WEEK issue of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE and a listing on the MEMBER DEALS page. If your are offering a discount for your show to members, and your show isn't listed yet on the MEMBER DEALS page, let me know as soon as possible.

DO YOU HAVE A HOLIDAY-THEMED CD?

Once again CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE is listing holiday-themed CDs on a special page of the website for those looking for that special "stocking-stuffer" or the perfect CD to have on hand for those holiday events that need music in the background. If you have a holiday-themed CD (commercially produced & available), let me know - with a link to your website or the web address where it can be purchased. And of your holiday CD is already listed please check if the link is still correct and working. You need not be a member of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE to be listed on this page - but your support would be appreciated.

DO YOU HAVE A HOLIDAY-THEMED CABARET SHOW?

I will also be adding a special section to the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website (http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/) listing holiday-themed shows around the country, and will include these show listings in the newsletter after Thanksgiving (November 27th). Send in your listing - but please include complete information and do not simply send me a copy of your flier or show card.

LOOKING FOR CLUB SCHEDULES

Early every Monday morning go through the club schedules sent to me, and then I jump from website to website of clubs on my list all around the world to collect and update information for this newsletter. But please note that there are a few clubs that do not send me a schedule - and do not have a website. Here in NYC, THE TRIAD, DILLON'S and the WEST BANK do not mail or post schedules, and in Los Angeles, its THE GARDENIA. All these clubs have regular cabaret shows on their schedules, but I simply have no way to get this information easily. So, if you have a show at any of these venues, it is a good idea for you to send me an e-mail with the information directly. I cannot promise to use all items received, but I will at least have the news.

I'M ALWAYS LOOKING FOR MORE NEWS

I get plenty of show listings sent me - far more than I can possibly use - it is really difficult trying to choose which ones to run, which ones to set aside. Sometimes the item itself makes this choice - incomplete information or just a scan of a flier, neither of which is useful to me. I would love to have more items from outside NYC, especially NEWS items - new venues opening, benefits, CD Releases, celebrations, new pianos, etc. Add a website link if available. I have news ready to print about two new cabaret venues - already in operation - but one contains no reservation phone number or cover information, and the other did not include the exact street address.

A WORD FROM OUR SPONSORS

REMEMBER: Each weekly issue of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE newsletter includes a rundown of all the banner advertisers on the website - and these items will be repeated as long as the banner is running. There is a more complete article on nearly all these items in the BREAKING NEWS section of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website (http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/).

NOVEMBER BANNER AD SLOTS SELLING FAST

BANNER AD spaces on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website were sold out again for this week, we continue to receive reservations for banner slots in the weeks to come. Keep in mind, I limit the ads to 20 banners per week, so if you plan to order a banner, reserve your banner space as far in advance as possible. A lot of folks will want to start advertising their CDs for holiday sales in November & December, so don't delay getting your order in.

Banner ads are displayed at random in two places on nearly all 3,000 pages. Your ad could be seen as many as 3,000 times each day, 21,000 times each week! You can run a banner for 2 weeks on CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE for just $80 - in full color - with a "live link" to your website, if applicable. That's before any member rebates or discounts. In addition, those running banners get mentioned every week in the MONDAY issue of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE e-mail newsletter (current circulation nearly 2,500) as long as the banner is running.

For information on banner ads, check out the banner information page on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website (http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/BannerHere.shtml), or simply send me a note at banners@svhamstra.com with the single word "Banner" in the subject line and I send the details.
