HOTLINE ONLINE #031104 - Thursday, November 13, 2003
Since 1990 Your First, Best, and Only Complete Source of Cabaret News
If it's anything
to do with cabaret, you'll probably read it here first!
This is the MIDWEEK Issue
of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE which includes news, breaking stories and
notes, and news on shows offering discounts to members of CABARET
HOTLINE ONLINE.
The wind
is blowing wildly outside - the temperatures are supposed to drop
from the mid-50s (f) right now to the 30s by nightfall, with winds
approaching 50 MPH as the cold front arrives. They are putting up
the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center today - and I hear they are
setting it up early to avoid any problems with the winds. A little
thing to note for those planning on visiting New York City on Wednesday,
December 3rd: This is the day of the official tree lighting ceremony.
Wednesday is also "matinee day" which means that most of the Broadway
shows have performances in the afternoon as well as in the evening.
And with the increased crowds expected for the tree lighting, there
will be increases security in midtown. They call it "gridlock" and
that doesn't just mean auto traffic - it will be difficult for anyone
- even pedestrians - to get around the city that afternoon. Be aware
- arrive early, use public transportation, and have a stress-free
time.
I feel really
good this morning, and the reason is that for the past week I have
had an assistant here helping me catch up on all the various projects
that have been piling up here. Together we finally mailed out all
the membership cards (there were close to 30 new ones to be mailed)
and all the CDs for GOLD (and above) members (about 50 were mailed).
Part of the delay was because my postage meter ran out of ink - and
it took Pitney Bowes and UPS over a week to deliver it. We had everything
all ready to go, so as soon as the ink arrived on Monday, we completed
the job and trucked everything off to the mailbox. They should all
be delivered by tomorrow or Saturday.
At the same
time, with the additional help, I was able to play catchup with all
the articles that had to be posted on the website. My apologies to
those events we missed and have already passed. There is a list near
the bottom of this newsletter of all the items added in the last seven
days. My assistant will be here three days a week until I get all
caught up - hopefully before the end of the month.

I'M ALWAYS LOOKING FOR
MORE NEWS
I get plenty
of show listings sent me - far more than I can possibly use - it is
really difficult trying to choose which ones to run, which ones to
set aside. Sometimes the item itself makes this choice - incomplete
information or just a scan of a flier, neither of which is useful
to me. I would love to have more items from outside NYC, especially
NEWS items - new venues opening, benefits, CD Releases, celebrations,
new pianos, etc. Add a website link if available.
DON'T OVERLOOK THIS OPPORTUNITY
TO PROMOTE YOUR WEBSITE!
Cabaret performers
who subscribe to CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE can request a link to their
website on the Performers Links pages on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE
website - you don't need to be a member. You should check this section
just to make sure your name is listed and properly linked. See http://www.cabarethotlineonline.com/CabaretLinksIndex.shtml
While there,
see if there is another category on the page that you should be linked
through as well - Songwriter, Director, Videographer, etc. You do
not have to be a member to have a link on these pages. Please tell
your friends about this section of the website - eventually we hope
it will become sort of a "Cabaret Yellow Pages" section where you
can find hundreds of resources in putting together your show or recording
your CD.
Remember,
you need a website to be linked. An e-mail address is not sufficient.

FILL THOSE SEATS WITH
CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE MEMBERS
Remember,
an empty seat brings you no income at all - a seat filled with a member
of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE at a discount brings you extra income, plus
a walking-talking advertisement for you and your show. CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE members are all cabaret lovers and are all "internet savvy"
- if they like your show, they are going to spread the word, almost
immediately.
There are
over 20 shows currently playing in NYC and elsewhere offering discounts
to members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE! If a SILVER ($20) just attends
4 or 5 of these events, they would have the cost of their membership
back - and would still be able to use that $20 towards a banner ad
in the membership year!
In addition,
shows offering the discount get a free listing in the MIDWEEK issue
of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE! For the many folks who ask to be listed
here, this is a way to be sure your show gets mentioned! And a brief
item on your show will be placed on the MEMBER DEALS page - with a
photo if you send one. If you send me a press release for the BREAKING
NEWS page, your article link will also be "flagged" with the discount
notation.
You don't
have to even be a member of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE to offer the discount.
(But I certainly would appreciate your membership donation, and your
membership will make it possible for you to get discounts to other
folks' shows.)
SHOWS OFFERING DISCOUNTS
