WHAT IS MARCH IS CABARET MONTH?

The concept of MARCH IS CABARET MONTH was developed by cabaret venue owners in NYC to increase the awareness - and attendance - of cabaret events during the slow months of winter. The month of March chosen because, in those days, the month would kick off with the annual BACK STAGE BISTRO awards gala and end with the annual MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets) AWARDS. However, as MAC began to reschedule its awards show later into April and then into May, and the BACK STAGE BISTRO awards show became a private event for winners and their friends only (the publication no longer supports the BISTRO AWARDS) the concept of MARCH IS CABARET MONTH faded away.

In January of 2008, CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, an online website and twice weekly e-mail newsletter with 2700 subscribers, took upon itself the task of resurrecting MARCH IS CABARET MONTH and with the support of performers, venues and cabaret organizations. Special MARCH IS CABARET MONTH events are held around the world each year, kicked off by a special MARCH IS CABARET MONTH GALA presented in NYC.

In setting up the goals for CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE for 2010, the most important thing on the agenda is developing programs to reach out beyond the "basic" cabaret audience of performers' families and friends ("preaching to the choir") and bringing this amazing art form to the attention of a broader audience.

The THIRD ANNUAL MARCH IS CABARET MONTH GALA will be held in New York City on Tuesday, March 2nd at 7:00 pm at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATER (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909). Tickets will be available only online - limited seating. No reservations will be taken by the club.

Tickets are priced at $30, with a $5 discount for members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE and a $10 discount for registered "OVER-65" Members. 2009-2010 Members can order 1 additional ticket at the member price. (There is a $15 food/drink minimum imposed by the venue - a full dinner menu is available.)

To purchase tickets, you must make your reservation online at the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website - there is a link on the opening page of the website to the Reservation-Purchase page. ONLY 75 TICKETS WILL BE SOLD. No reservations will be taken by the venue. No tickets will be sold on the night of the show.
