Barry Manilow At Carnegie Hall November 5th In Johnny Mercer Tribute

12th Annual Lauri Strauss Leukemia Foundation Gala Concert to "Accentuate The Positive"

The most exciting benefit concert of the year, the 12th annual Lauri Strauss Leukemia Foundation Gala Concert and Reception, "Accentuate The Positive," will feature Barry Manilow, plus Skitch Henderson conducting The New York Pops Orchestra, joined by a long list of special guest stars. This year's Gala Concert and Reception will be held at CARNEGIE HALL (154 West 57th Street, NYC) on November 5th, starting at 7:30 pm. It will be followed by a reception, also at Carnegie Hall.

Guest stars in addition to Mr. Manilow include Faith Prince, Susan Lucci, Marvin Hamlisch, Judy Collins, Michael Amante, Polly Bergen, Margaret Whiting and Jack Wrangler, Monica Mancini, The New York Pops All-stars (Skitch Henderson, Bucky Pizzarelli, Peter Appleyard and Sara Caswell), James Morris, Freddy Roman, Max Weinberg, Carol Woods and The New York Pops. Direction is by Charles Repole.

With the support of the Johnny Mercer Foundation and many others, this year's concert will also pay tribute to the music of Johnny Mercer. The concert's title, "Accentuate The Positive," from the famous Johnny Mercer song title, is used to reflect the many positive advancements in leukemia research. This year's concert also marks the 10th anniversary of involvement in the benefit by Skitch Henderson and The New York Pops.

Gala proceeds will benefit the Lauri Strauss Leukemia Foundation Research Grants at major cancer research centers selected by the foundation's medical advisory board.

The Herb and Evelyn Strauss family, with the support and assistance of their many friends and family, created a foundation in their daughter's memory that has funded research grants and sponsored many marrow donor drives.

The foundation has contributed millions toward research into the causes of leukemia and allied cancers, patient care, and Grand Round Lectures at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. Their annual gala concert began started 12 years ago.
