Monheit Appearing
at The Oak Room

New York,
NY - March 9, 2001 - Twenty-three year old vocal sensation Jane Monheit
will appear for a two week engagement, titled "Monheit Sings My
Favorite Things," (March 13th through 17th & March 20th through 24th)
at the THE ALGONQUIN OAK ROOM (59 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-840-6800).
Monheit's debut album "Never Never Land" (N-Coded Music), has spent
over four months on Billboard Magazine's jazz chart, and hit the #1
spot on Amazon.com's best seller list, topping the biggest names in
pop music. Accompanying Ms. Monheit at the Oak Room will be Alan Broadbent
on piano, George Mraz on bass, and Rodney Jones on guitar.
Tuesday through
Thursday - showtime is 9:00 pm, Friday and Saturday showtimes are
9:00 pm & 11:30 pm. There is a music charge of $50.00, and a $15.00
minimum
On May 8th,
N-Coded Music will release Ms. Monheit's much anticipated second CD.
She performs exquisite interpretations of songs such as Spring Can
Really Hang You Up the Most," "So Many Stars," "Somewhere Over the
Rainbow," and "Blame It On My Youth." Monheit is accompanied on this
CD by stellar musicians: pianist Kenny Barron, bassist Christian McBride,
saxophonist Michael Brecker, trumpeter/flugelhornist Tom Harrell,
and drummer Greg Hutchinson. The album was produced by the legendary
Grammy winning producer, Joel Dorn.
During the
past year Jane Monheit has given critically acclaimed performances
at THE VILLAGE VANGUARD, THE BLUE NOTE, THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL (as part
of the Louis Armstrong Tribute Concert); CARNEGIE HALL (as part of
the Artists For the Cure breast cancer benefit), ALICE TULLY HALL
(as part of the tribute to Arthur Schwartz), and THE KAPLAN PENTHOUSE
(as part of Lincoln Center's American Songbook Series). In addition
to her engagement at the Oak Room, Monheit will be appearing this
year at The Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, The Jazz Store in Carmel,
CA, The San Francisco Jazz Festival, Jazz Aspen Snowmass, and in a
return engagement at THE VILLAGE VANGUARD, May 1st through 6th. ---------------
