NAPA RIVER INN PRESENTS LEGENDARY PERFORMERS TO BENEFIT HUMANE SOCIETY OF NAPA COUNTY

March 1, 2001, Napa, California - Five legendary musicians will perform in Hatt Hall at the newly opened Napa River Inn on March 16, 2001 to benefit the Humane Society of Napa County. Included in the performance will be boogie and blues legend Hadda Brooks, Broadway legend Marilynn Lovell Matz, Emmy and Grammy-award winning composer/arranger Peter Matz, Broadway and cabaret star Phillip Officer and celebrated cabaret star Barbara Brussell.

In addition to the performance, a silent auction will be held, including private winery dinners and tours, getaway packages at the Napa River Inn, Meadowood, the Ahwahnee Lodge and the Hong Kong Club in Hong Kong. The many other exciting packages also include magnums of exclusive wine from Harlan Estates, Long Meadow Ranch, Shafer, Cosentino, Elise, St. Clement, and Stag's Leap Wine Cellars.

As part of the evening's events, the Humane Society of Napa County will honor Josh Hippauf, the young Napa Valley man who was injured in an auto accident last year while avoiding a cat that crossed in front of his car. Hippauf was struck by another auto and lost his leg as a result of his successful efforts to save the animal.

The Humane Society will be evicted from its current shelter on lmola Avenue this summer to make room for the Napa River Flood Control Project. The funds raised at this benefit performance will help relocate and care for Napa's homeless dogs, cats and bunnies.

The Humane Society of Napa County was founded in 1973 by a group of community animal lovers to rescue and save the lives of the hundreds of homeless animals taken in annually by Napa County Animal Control Services. The organization is a non-profit organization, is not funded by any government entity and exists solely on membership dues, donations, bequests and fundraising activities.

The group provides a variety of services, including programs to adopt unwanted, abused and neglected animals into safe, loving homes; spay/neuter clinics; veterinary services and medical services for sick and injured animals at the adoption center; community lost and found services; foster homes for orphaned, newborn animals; and programs for responsible pet ownership through humane education.

The Napa River Inn anchors the historic 2.5-acre Napa Mill Project on the picturesque Napa River. Originally built in 1884 and designated a National Registry Historic Landmark, the Napa Mill Project is the largest historic redevelopment undertaking in the history of Napa. In addition to the Napa River Inn, the Napa Mill Project and will house a variety of restaurants, Epicurean food markets, boutique shops, a farmer's market, an arts and crafts market, plus an ongoing schedule of special events, festivals and river activities.

The Friday night benefit begins with a wine reception and opening of the silent auction at 7:00 pm and the performances follow at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $75 per person and may be reserved by calling 707.253.4015. The Napa River Inn is located at 500 Main Street, Napa, CA 94559.
