WORLD FAMOUS JAZZ SINGER TO OPEN HER OWN JAZZ AND MUSIC ROOM IN LONDON

Salena Jones to Open New Club in West London in September, 2001

Salena Jones, long regarded by many as one of the finest singers on the world stage of jazz and swinging popular music, has leased premises at Shepherd's Bush Green, a fashionable area in West London. The facility is a modern and air conditioned basement restaurant licensed for up to 200 people. Nearby are located the BBC Television Studios in Wood Lane, the Shepherd's Bush Empire and the Bush Theatre. The room is scheduled to open in the Autumn 2001, after decoration and fitting out.

The policy will be to promote not only jazz but a range of live music in a comfortable setting with a good food menu and wine list. As well as appearing herself on a regular basis Salena Jones will promote British and visiting artists. Although entrance will not restricted to members Salena invites founder-membership applications and is also seeking sponsorship involvement.

Asked about her reasons for this development, Salena says that appearance opportunities and media exposure for herself and many other artists have become so limited over the last 20 years or so - that she feels she has no other option but to make this move.

Salena strongly believes that there is scope for this operation to succeed in West London and that there are many people of all age groups who love the special experience of being in an intimate and atmospheric room, eating and drinking while listening to good music.

In realizing this long held ambition Salena says its scary and a big challenge, as well as exciting!

Salena Jones hails from Newport News, Virginia, a small seaport town which is also the birthplace of Ella Fitzgerald and Pearl Bailey. Salena came to Europe as young girl in the mid-sixties and has been based in England ever since. Although mainly categorized as a jazz singer by most people, this is too simplistic because Salena has to date made 36 solo albums and 22 singles exceeding 500 recordings, covering various styles of music ranging from jazz, blues, Latin, big band, orchestral and even commercial pop to, most recently, an album based on classical melodies. Salena's recording contract with JVC Victor Japan now approaches 25 years' duration.

A genuine international performer Salena has appeared on every continent throughout the world and works in jazz clubs, concert halls, theatres and jazz festivals. Over her illustrious career she has sung with Dexter Gordon, Tete Montoliu, "King" Curtis, Sarah Vaughan, Louis Armstrong, Ray Brown, Maynard Ferguson, Roy Budd, Richard Tee, Billy May, MJQ, Hank Jones, Larry Adler, Kenny Burrell, Toots Thielemans, Richie Cole, Antonio Carlos Jobim, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - and many more famous artists including such contemporary musicians as Alan Barnes, David Newton, Russell Malone, Ken Peplowski, Benny Green, Scott Hamilton, Christian McBride ....

Salena's most recent appearances include tours of Japan, the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow, Idaho followed by the Blue Note Club in New York; Tel Aviv; Snape Maltings, Aldeburgh; Pizza on the Park at London's Hyde Park Corner and at the Purcell Room at the Royal Festival Hall with her strings ensemble.
