STONEHAM THEATRE UNVEILS 2001/2002 SEASON AND PRESENTS STEVEN BRINBERG AS SUMMER TREAT

Steven Brinberg brings his highly acclaimed impersonation show "Simply Barbra" to the STONEHAM THEATRE (395 Main Street, Stoneham, MA - 781-279-2200) for six performances in August, from Wednesday the 8th through Sunday the 12th. Show times are 7:30 pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, with an 8:00 pm time set for Friday & Saturday nights. There is an additional matinee show scheduled for Sunday the 12th at 2:00 pm.

This September 7th, the beautifully refurbished, 350-seat Stoneham Theatre begins its 2001/2002 Winter series with a production of the popular 1950s musical review, "Forever Plaid," which runs through September 30th. Then, from October 19th until November 4th, it's time for thrills and chills via Patrick Hamilton's "Rope," the delicious British whodunit that Sir Alfred Hitchcock turned into a 1948 cinematic cliffhanger starring James Stewart and Farley Granger.

Next up, and just in time for the holidays, it's the retelling of Charles Dickens' immortal, "A Christmas Carol," featuring the cantankerous Ebeneezer Scrooge, the mournful ghost of Jacob Marley, the innocent Tiny Tim and a trio of persuasive night visitors. "A Christmas Carol" holds forth from November 30th to December 23rd.

The season continues on March 8, 2002 with A. R. Gurney's insightful and skewed look at modern relationships, "Sylvia," a play that opens when a husband brings home a stray dog and quickly develops into a battle between his wife and his pet over his affections. This latest hit by the author of "Love Letters" continues through March 21.

From April 26th through May 19th the Stoneham Theatre will presents the now-classic "Little Shop of Horrors," a sendup of Japanese-styled monster flicks that began life as a campy black-and-white B movie (remember Jack Nicholson as the masochistic dental patient?), was subsequentlyÆand successfullyÆadapted to the Broadway stage by lyricist Howard Ashman and melodist Alan Menken, and then returned triumphantly to the silver screen starring Rick Moranis as the hapless horticulturist, Seymour Krelborn.

Individual tickets for all Stoneham Theatre 2001/2002 productions are priced at $25 and $35. The theatre offers discounts for students, seniors and groups and there are several levels of special subscription ticketing available, ranging from $68-112, which offer numerous additional benefits.

The Stoneham Theatre re-opened its doors on December 1, 2000, after two years of extensive restoration and is a state-of-the-art performing arts venue. Tickets are available at the Theatre's box office, Monday through Saturday, from 12:00 until 5:00 pm or by calling 781-279-2200.
