Cabaret
at the Rock its monthly cabaret series BLACK ROCK CENTER FOR THE ARTS
(12900 Middlebrook Road, Germantown, MD - 301-528-2260) on November
22nd with DC Area Performer Jim Van Slyke's show "Listen to the Music."
Show time is 8:00 pm. The musical arrangements for the show were devised
by Mr. Van Slyke, with the able assistance of Maureen Codelka at the
piano. The show was directed by Thomas Mills. Maria Egler, Eric Thompson,
and Evan Casey provide back up vocals. Tickets are $15.00.
Mr. Van Slyke's musical
career runs the gamut from opera to musical theatre to pop music.
He has appeared with the Washington Opera, and was a featured entertainer
for President Clinton's 1997 Inaugural Ball. His musical Theatre credits
include the role of Sparky in FOREVER PLAID. His cabaret act is featured
regularly at New York City's DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street,
NYC - 212-757-0788 - http://www.donttellmama.com/).
In addition to his work as a performer he maintains a busy teaching
schedule. He is on the voice faculty at Catholic University, and has
a thriving private studio both in the DC Area and in New York City.
The show is part of Black
Rock Center for the Arts' ongoing cabaret series Cabaret at the Rock
which occurs the fourth Friday of every month through May. Next up
the series will present Tony Award Nominee Sharon McNight in her one
woman show "Songs to Offend Most Everyone" as part of the Center's
Grand Opening Gala on December 7th.

2003 - May 23: Wendy Lane
Bailey and Music Director George Fulginiti-Shakar in "Hot Coffee."
