An evening
of rarely-heard, original songs from the celebrated composer.
Singer/songwriter
John Bucchino will debut his new show, "Archives," at THE DUPLEX (61
Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438 - http://www.theduplex.com/)
on all five Monday evenings in September, the 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd
and 30th. All performances will begin at 9:00 pm. There is a $15 cover
charge, and a two-drink minimum. John's show will feature surprise
guest performances from many familiar faces from the worlds of theatre
and cabaret.
The celebrated and award-winning
songwriter will perform an evening of his original songs heard rarely
in the past ("pulled from the archives,"), as well as some brand new
material.
John Bucchino's songs
have been recorded and performed by Judy Collins, Barbara Cook, Michael
Feinstein, Art Garfunkel, Patti LuPone, Yo-Yo Ma, Liza Minnelli, The
Boston Pops, The Los Angeles Philharmonic, and many others in venues
that include Carnegie Hall, The Hollywood Bowl, The Sydney Opera House
and The White House. He was honored as recipient of the 1997 Johnny
Mercer Songwriter Award, the 1998 Songwriters' Fellowship Award, the
1998 ASCAP Foundation Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award, the 2000
Second Stage Constance Klinsky award and The Gilman & Gonzalez-Falla
Commendation Award and, in 2001, The Jonathan Larson and Kleban Awards.
Mr. Bucchino has written
songs for the musicals "The Artist at 40," "Urban Myths" and "Lavender
Girl," a piece included in an evening of short musicals called 3HREE,
compiled by Harold Prince. He has also written the songs for the DreamWorks
animated film "Joseph, King of Dreams" (from which the song "Better
Than I" won the 2000 Video Premiere Award for best song), and has
released two CDs: an RCA Victor CD and companion songbook titled "Grateful,
The Songs of John Bucchino" and "Solitude Lessons."
John's last NYC cabaret
outing, "It's Only Life," sold out the FireBird Cafœ in September
of 2001, and garnered the prestigious MAC Award from the Manhattan
Association of Clubs and Cabarets.
