Daughter of Cotton Club Band leader Cab Calloway in Limited Engagement - One Week Only!! February 5th through 9th

ARCI'S PLACE (450 Park Avenue South, NYC - 212-532-4370 - http://www.arcisplace.com/) and John Miller are happy to welcome jazz and cabaret star Chris Calloway in a one-week limited engagement. She will perform her show "Celebration of a Legacy" beginning on Tuesday, February 5th with performances through Saturday, February 9th. Shows are at 8:00 pm Tuesday through Friday and at 8:30 & 11:00 pm on Saturday. Tickets to the show are $30 with a $15 food/drink minimum. Reservations are strongly suggested.

The daughter of The Cotton Club band leader Cab Calloway, who brought us "Minnie the Moocher" and "Hi-De-Ho," salutes her famous heritage through the songs closely associated with him, along with her own unique styling of the songs of Billie Holiday, Ethel Waters, Lena Horne, among others. In this autobiographical show, Ms. Calloway pays tribute to a legacy that she continues to uphold. She will be accompanied on piano by her Musical Director William Foster McDaniel.

Chris Calloway is heir to an American musical legacy. She began her career on The Ed Sullivan Show with an introduction by her dad some 30 years ago. Before he passed away in 1995, Chris performed with him and his Hi-De-Ho Orchestra. Together as a father/daughter team, they toured the US, Europe, South America, Japan and Australia.

Chris's Broadway credits include the history making all-black David Merrick production of "Hello Dolly" starring Pearl Bailey and Cab Calloway as well as "The Pajama Game" with Hal Linden and Barbara McNair. As an actress, Chris appeared for one year on the NBC soap opera "The Doctors" with Alec Baldwin and John Panko. Her portrayal of the jazz legend Billie Holiday in the Lanie Robertson play, "Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill," took her from Alabama to the Edinburgh Arts Festival; from Dallas to a tour of England; from Winnipeg, Canada to Sarasota, Florida, and finally to Santa Fe Stages International Theatre Festival. Settling in New Mexico, Chris became Santa Fe's Reigning "Diva Of The Night," performing at the major hotels and lounges, perfecting her very "own" unique singing style.

In 1999, Chris put together her father's last band, The Hi-De-Ho Orchestra for the JVC Jazz Festival in New York City. That success led her directly to a 55-city tour called "Cab Calloway's Legacy of Swing" in the winter of 2001. Returning to Santa Fe in the spring of 2001, Chris dove right into her dream project. Santa Fe Stages International Theatre Festival produced Chris's one-woman show "Clouds of Joy," which she wrote about her Aunt Blanche Calloway. Blanche Calloway was one of the only females to front an "all male" band in 1931 and she directly influenced the early days of her brother Cab's career. Blanche's career, Cab's career and now Chris's represent over 70 years of popular entertainment from the great American musical family.
