APRIL AT DAVENPORT'S FEATURES THE RETURN OF CHICAGO'S FAVORITE FUNNY GIRL COLLEEN McHUGH

April 2002 - DAVENPORT'S (1383 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, IL - 773-278-1830 - http://www.davenportspianobar.com/), is proud to welcome back Chicago favorite Colleen McHugh as she presents her first original solo show in over a year. Other highlights in April include the return of the vocal trio "3 Girls 3" and singer Tracy Adams. Davenport's Piano Bar & Cabaret is open every night , except Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 6:00 pm until 2:00 am (3:00 am on Saturdays). Reservations for all performances are strongly encouraged. A two-drink minimum is in effect in the Cabaret.

Colleen McHugh: "Songs of Self-Delusion"
Show Time: Saturdays, April 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th at 8:00 pm. Cover Charge: $18

AfterDark Award Winner and Second City National Touring Company member Colleen McHugh returns to Davenport's with her first original solo show in over a year. An evening packed with comedy, "Songs of Self-Delusion" features music by Jerry Herman, Randy Newman, Johnny Mercer, Robbie Fulks, John Bucchino, Jacques Brel and many more! "Songs of Self-Delusion" is directed by Rob Lindley, with Musical Director Andrew Blendermann, and features additional vocals by Allison Bazarko and Ryan Dunkin.


Pamela Sue Fox: "Let's Misbehave!"
Show Time: Mondays, April 1st & 8 that 8:00 pm. Cover Charge: $15

Pamela Sue Fox returns to Davenport's to showcase some of the vast musical comedy material by one of America's most beloved composers ever, Cole Porter. "Let's Misbehave!" features 17 Porter tunes, including a new song, "Opera Star," with lyrics written by Cole Porter during his college days and an original melody by Chicagoan John Steinhagen.


3 Girls 3: "Back to Bacharach"
Show Time: Thursdays, April 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th at 8:00 pm. Cover Charge: $15

Patty Morabito, Gail Becker and MaryMonica Thomas team up again as "3 Girls 3" for an exciting, fun-filled, hilarious evening for beginner audiences and cabaret aficionados alike. Revisiting their first show: "What the World Needs Now ..." the music of Burt Bacharach & Hal David , the girls have added new songs featuring some other collaborative composers such as Carole Bayer Sager, Elvis Costello, and Mack David. With Andrew Blendermann on the piano, they will be performing such favorites as "Do You Know the Way to San Jose," "Alfie," "Promises Promises," "The Blob," "Walk on By," "Wishin' and Hopin'," "Close to You," "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head," "Arthur's Theme," and more.


Tracy Adams: "Feng Shui and the Pursuit of Happiness"
Show Times: Fridays, April 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th at 8:00 pm. Cover Charge: $15

Tracy Adams returns for his fifth show at Davenport's to explore happiness: what it is, what it isn't, and the things people do to try to find it. "Feng Shui and the Pursuit of Happiness" features songs from writers as diverse as Harold Arlen, Tom Waits, Burt Bacharach, Carole King, Barry Manilow, and John Bucchino.


Kevin So: "An Evening with Kevin So"
Show Time: Friday, April 5th at 10:30 pm. Cover Charge: $10

Singer-songwriter Kevin So has a unique knack for appealing to audiences from all walks of life. A native of Boston, his albums have received critical acclaim and he is a seven-time Boston Music Award nominee, most recently for Outstanding Male Singer/Songwriter. Kevin has opened for some of the industry's best-known acts including Richie Havens, Joe Cocker, Randy Newman, Billy Bragg, and Dar Williams. Having released his fourth album "That Oriental Guy" to rave reviews, Kevin continues to perform across the country and around the world, combining such diverse influences as Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, and Robert Johnson. Kevin performs a stellar show that will rock you with the blues, quiet you with a lullaby, and move you with an anthem.


Stephen Rader: XY The Man
Show Times: Saturdays, April 6th, 13th, 20th & 27th at 10:30 pm. Cover Charge: $15

Rader performs at numerous Chicago venues including Davenport's, Voltaire, the Gentry and Toulouse on the Park. In 1999, he received the After Dark Award for Outstanding Cabaret performer for his show "Mama's Boy," and his second show, "Weird, Sexy & Dangerous," was honored as one of the top cabaret shows of 2000 by Gay Chicago Magazine.


David Balsi: "Fifteen Long - One Hour High"
Show Times: Sunday, April 7th at 8:00 pm Sundays, April 14th, 21st & 28th at 10:00 pm Cover Charge: $13

In "Fifteen Long - One Hour High," a raspy brazen voice, a feverish piano and fifteen original songs explore one artist's dreams, love and self-discovery. David Balsi, a young rock and roll inspired and classically trained pianist-songwriter, performs a selection of his compositions, which range from hypnotic voyages to the universe's limits to whimsical love songs. Balsi's songs will appeal to true songwriter enthusiasts. For those who enjoy the likes of Tom Waits, Lou Reed, Sting and Tori Amos, this show cannot be missed.


Jordan Simonson: "Bi Bi Jordan! A Bittersweet Farewell"
Show Times: Fridays, April 12, 19 & 26 at 10:30 pm Cover Charge: $15

It's time to finally say goodbye once again to Tri-state entertainer and self-prescribed bon vivant, Jordan O. Simonson. He takes an unwilling audience through a grueling, hour-long musical journey of self-discovery and self-importance. Not one to cower from the hot, harsh spotlight of truth, Jordan promises to reveal more than you'll care to know about his unreasonably long career and his super-secret private life.


Sara Davis: "I'm (Artificially) Hip!"
Show Times: Sundays, April 14th, 21st & 28th at 8:00 pm. Cover Charge: $12

Bionic chanteuse Sara Davis, fresh from an all-expense paid stay at Providence Northeast Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina, presents a cabaret evening of standards, novelty songs and orthopedic anecdotes. Diagnosed with osteoarthritis at age 17, Davis underwent hip replacement surgery at age 31 on December 3, 2001. "I'm (Artificially) Hip!" is a lighthearted look at her experience and on-going recovery. Selected songs include "I'm (Artificially) Hip!," by Chicago songwriters Cheri Coons and Chuck Larkin, "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" (Ellington/Russell), "Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep" (Berlin), "Temporary" (Bucchino), and "The Joint is Jumpin'" (Waller/Johnson/Razaf), with Musical Director Chuck Larkin at the piano.


IN THE PIANO BAR IN APRIL

In addition to providing informal musical entertainment year-round with no cover charge, Davenport's lively Piano Bar offers an after-work cocktail hour with complimentary hors d'oeuvres on Friday evenings. "Martini Madness" strikes on Thursday and Sunday evenings with specially-priced flavored martinis named for Davenport's popular staff and performers, such as the "Mattini" and "Nitz's Nector." Live entertainment begins at 9:00 pm on weeknights and 8:00 pm on weekends, featuring sing-a-longs and audience requests by the following popular Chicago performers:

Fridays: Daryl Nitz with George Howe on piano
Sundays Cocktail hour: George Howe on piano
