GEORGE & IRA GERSHWIN WEBSITE LAUNCHED
The
George and Ira Gershwin families are pleased to announce the launch
of www.gershwin.com <http://www.gershwin.com/>,
the only approved website celebrating and archiving the lives of songwriting
brothers, George and Ira Gershwin.
The site, designed for
the Gershwin families by the new San Francisco based design agency,
Pinwheel Productions (http://www.pinwheel.tv/),
was created to appeal to long-time Gershwin enthusiasts, as well as
to attract new younger admirers. The site serves as a historical documentation,
including photos and MP3s to enhance the user's experience. One of
the most interesting pages is the "virtual jukebox," where a user
can listen to segments of approximately 50 of the brothers' songs,
while garnering information about each song and the show it was composed
for. A range of musicians can be heard on the juke box, incorporating
both standard and contemporary artists - from Frank Sinatra and Ella
Fitzgerald to Jon Bon Jovi and Peter Gabriel. In addition, Gershwin
Fans worldwide can log onto the site to find if there are any Gershwin
shows coming to their city.
"We hope that this site
will both educate a younger generation to the delight of Gershwin
music, as well as appeal to older audiences looking to reacquaint
themselves with these timeless melodies," says Mark Trent Goldberg,
executive director for the Ira and Leonore S. Gershwin Trusts. The
site is intended to open the doors of interest. "We include a list
of our favorite books and CD's, in case someone wants to further their
education Æ not only about the Gershwin Brothers, but about the American
Musical Theater as a whole."
