After
two SRO engagements at Los Angeles' legendary GARDENIA (7066 Santa
Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444), singer-author-comedienne
Shelly Goldstein brings the newest edition of her show "Songs For
Lovers & Those They've Dumped" back to the club for three Wednesday
nights in May, the 1st, 8th and 15th at 9 pm. Musical Director is
Scott Harlan. There is a $10 cover charge.
Shelly Goldstein returned
to performing last year, after over 10 years as a successful TV writer-producer,
working with such diverse artists as Cybill Shepherd, īN SYNC, Michael
McKean, Tracey Ullman and Yoko Ono. She has produced every genre of
TV, including seven episodes of VH-1's BEHIND THE MUSIC.
In the past 12 months Shelly's
show, "Gay Man Trapped Inside the Body of a Straight Girl" has been
cheered in London, LA, Belfast, San Juan and Phoenix. Her November
debut at THE GARDENIA was so packed, one clever audience member squeezed
onto Musical Director Scott Harlan's piano bench.
Musically, Shelly combines
contemporary and classic Broadway with early rock/pop (Carole King,
Laura Nyro, Dusty Springfield, Paul Simon, Randy Newman, Lennon-McCartney,
Jeff Barry & Phil Spector - Ellie Greenwich) and her own comic songs
which are quickly becoming sought after by cabaret artists across
the country.
Shelly's comedy looks
at life in the post-9/11 world (through her song, "How Lovely When
News Was Stupid"), surviving Hollywood as a 30-something woman and
the absurd "tragedy of errors" which is romance in the 21st Century.
