Frank Ferrante Recreates New York Stage Success as Legendary Marx in NJN/PBS Taped Play Written by Comedian's Son Arthur

The grease-paint mustache and cantilevered eyebrows. The loping walk and waving cigar. The rolling eyes. Unmistakably the one, the only Groucho Marx - recently declared by Time Magazine as the greatest American comedian of the 20th century.

Celebrating this icon's impact on comedy and the world of entertainment, GROUCHO: A LIFE IN REVUE airs on New Jersey Network (NJN) on Thursday, April 11th at 9:00 pm. Produced by NJN, 'Groucho' will air again on Philadelphia-based WHYY on April 19th at 10:00 pm. The program brings to television the award-winning stage production chronicling the legendary comedian's life and amazing career. Frank Ferrante will also perform "GROUCHO, A LIFE IN REVUE" at the WALNUT STREET THEATRE in Philadelphia on April 15th.

Written by Groucho's son, Arthur Marx, this comedy with music tells the unparalleled rags-to-riches story of one of America's funniest entertainers. The two-act play takes viewers through Groucho's life from age 15 to 85, showing him as the young vaudevillian, the Broadway and film star, the irrepressible host of radio and television's "You Bet Your Life" and the reflective octogenarian in his final years.

Frank Ferrante portrays Groucho, reprising his New York to London role which he has performed more than 2,000 times and has earned him worldwide critical acclaim. Roy Abramsohn performs as both Harpo and Chico Marx. Marguerite Lowell takes on 10 roles, playing the women in the Marx Brothers' lives.

GROUCHO: A LIFE IN REVUE features classic Marx Brothers routines, jokes, ad-libs, songs, harp solos, piano trickery and dances. The show also explores the man behind the comic's mask, revealing Groucho the brother, the husband, the family man and the aging wit.

Production funding is provided by Public Television Viewers and PBS. Executive producers: Peter LeDonne (White Whale Productions), New Jersey Network (NJN) and Comedia Creative Group. Writers: Arthur Marx and Robert Fisher. Director for stage: Frank Ferrante. Teleplay director: Steve Moskovic. Music arrangements: Jim Grady and Brian Hurley.
