PAUL'S
MALL Æ JAZZ WORKSHOP Retrospective Announces Corporate Sponsor

The first corporate sponsor
to fund "The Paul's Mall Æ Jazz Workshop Era: 15 Years of Music History
in Boston (1963-1978)", a collection of archival material from the
two internationally-known music venues in downtown Boston, is SCULLERS
JAZZ CLUB (400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA - 617-562-4111 - http://www.scullersjazz.com/)
and DOUBLETREE GUEST SUITES-BOSTON. With the first corporate sponsor
in place, the project will be seeking other sponsors to help fund
the coordination of the collection over the next year.
"We are delighted to be
the first to get on board with this project," says Dayla Santurri,
General Manager of SCULLERS. "Fred Taylor has been a major force in
music history and we are proud to be affiliated with him. This gives
us the opportunity to join the hundreds of thousands of people who
came through the clubs in saying "thanks, Fred" for many years of
world-class entertainment."
The comprehensive collection
includes original contracts, photographs and live recordings, and
will be donated to the Music Department of the Boston Public Library
in April 2003. A public ceremony and city-wide events will be scheduled
to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the closing of the clubs, which
were located across from the Boston Public Library on Boylston Street
at Copley Square.
From the early career
launchings of Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Bette Midler and Earth,
Wind and Fire, to comedians Richard Pryor, Flip Wilson, Cheech and
Chong and jazz legends John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis,
PAUL'S MALL and THE JAZZ WORKSHOP offered a very hip venue with an
international reputation for presenting the super stars of the day
and hot new up-and-coming performers.
Those interested in supporting
the project or in submitting stories, photos or materials regarding
PAUL'S MALL, THE JAZZ WORKSHOP or Fred Taylor may contact Dawn Singh
at 617-522-8633. Fred Taylor is Honorary Chairman, Dawn Singh serves
as Project Coordinator and Karl Nurse is Producer of the retrospective.
