KRONOS QUARTET: a classical yet classically undefined quartet, known for its unique artistic vision and fearless dedication to experimentation since 1973, Kronos Quartet has assembled a body of work unparalleled in range and scope of expression. For the last three decades Kronos has commissioned new work resulting in more than 450 pieces that have been written or arranged for the group by artists as varied as Mingus, Piazolla, Paredes, Glass and Wenjing. Beyond creating a repertoire for the string quartet, they have given voice to artists from an eclectic array of cultures and can count among their creative partners the likes of Pandit Pran Nath, Hamza El Din, Wu Man and the Throat Singers of Tuva. They are the recipients of eight ASCAP Chamber Music Awards, three Edison Awards (Netherlands) and numerous other international accolades. This month, Kronos Quartet comes to Joe's Pub to celebrate the release of their new Nonesuch CD "Nuevo." Highlighting a variety of musical instruments and virtually unprecedented in scope, it is a kaleidoscope collection of popular and traditional Mexican music spanning nearly one hundred years. The sonic landscape of the CD suggests the vastness of Mexican culture Æ a diverse array of experiences and ideas, intellectual, spiritual and cultural

AUDRA MCDONALD, who has what composer Adam Guettel describes as a "1100cc Harley-Davidson engine of a voice" returns to Joe's Pub for this special benefit and an eagerly anticipated encore engagement, to the stage she opened nearly four years ago. Since that time, and long before, Broadway's youngest legend (three Tony's before age 30 for performances in CAROUSEL, RAGTIME, MASTER CLASS), has been electrifying audiences on stage and in concert. She has broken the barriers of age and casting, moves with ease within every musical genre and adds formidable acting talent to that astonishing voice. It is no wonder that she has become a muse for a cadre of young and innovative composers as they traverse the borders of opera, musical theatre, pop music and art songs. During this special evening, Audra will draw from a list of musical talent and innovation that includes Larry O'Keefe, Jeff Blumenkrantz, Adam Guettel, Jason Robert Brown, Michael John LaChiusa and others. With musical direction from Ted Sperling
