DURING CABARET CONVENTION WEEK

Here is a
listing the events in NYC that folks attending the convention might
want to take in after the Town Hall shows each night. These listing
will be updated as any additional information comes in. Here is a
list of cabaret shows playing in NYC after 9:00 pm (after 5:00 pm
on Sunday) between October 21st and 27th.
THE ALGONQUIN OAK ROOM

is holding its annual CAVALCADE OF CABARET!, in conjunction with the
MABEL MERCER NY CABARET CONVENTION. I must warn you that most of these
shows are already sold out. Now, unlike other major clubs, the OAK
ROOM has no publicist, does not fax or mail out schedules, and pretty
much leaves it to the performers to let the press know about their
shows. This year's lineup of shows (with any extra information I could

9:30 show - Melissa Langton, winner of last year's "City of Sydney
Award" of the SYDNEY CABARET CONVENTION, has teamed up with Marianne
McCormack, winner of this year's competition. The "City of Sydney
Award" also brings with it a chance to sing at the NYC Convention,
and both gals will appear at TOWN HALL this year. Last year Melissa
took ill and could not perform, so she was invited to return this
year. Mark Jones appears as musical director for both performers.

presents shows designed with the intent of celebrating the music from
our some of our favorite shows from the resent past. In one-hour "highlights,"
the company will take audiences through musical bright
spots

productions. Also, look for a special guest or two to join the company
at each performance. This Thursday, the show is CHESS - there will

is presenting the debut engagement of Tony Award winning Broadway
actress and singer Betty Buckley through November 9th. Drawing on
her Texas roots and talent as a storyteller, Ms. Buckley's new show
is called "Deep in the Heart," an evening of classic Americana and
songs by contemporary songwriters. The show will play the following
schedule: Tuesday through Saturday at 8:30 pm with a late show on
Friday and Saturday at 11:00 pm. Tuesday through Thursday 8:30 pm

Winner Matt Leahy with the final performance of his acclaimed show
"Rules of the Road ... A Love Story." Musical direction is by Bistro
award winner Mark Hartman with Steven Ray Watkins and also features
Marco Brehm on bass. The show is directed by Bistro and MAC award
winner Lennie Watts. I have seen this show four times already - it
is one of the finest tributes to the male vocalists of the past I

presents "Survival of the Fetus," a new autobiographical musical written
by and starring singer-songwriter Coby Koehl. It will be performed
Thursday, Friday & Saturday, October 24th, 25th & 26th at 10:00 pm,
with an additional show on Sunday, the 27th at 5:30 pm. Musical Director
is Jonah Spidel, with arrangements by Jonah Spidel and Erik Reyes
and additional arrangements by Ken Kincaid. Director/Choreographer
is Vic DiMonda. In addition to Coby Koehl and Meredith Cullen, the
show features, in various roles, two gossipy backup singers, Cherie
Hannouche and Natalie Joy Johnson, as well as a number of male characters
portrayed by Matthew R. Wilson and Erik Reyes. Mr. Cole has one of
the most beautiful voices in all of cabaret - and beyond. Tickets

presents a new opera series on Sunday nights called "The Best of Italy:
Music, and Food." It features Frank Basile's bass, Larry Woodard's
tenor, and Kathleen Downey's soprano. This is Ms. Downey's cabaret
debut, we believe, but she does look very familiar.
Mr. Woodard also accompanies
the vocalists on the grand piano. There is a $65 prix fixe dinner
