"BARBARA LEA - "THE MELODY LINGERS ON #2" AT JUDY'S CHELSEA

Barbara Lea will celebrate the release of her latest CD "THE MELODY LINGERS ON" in a series of six Friday night shows at JUDY'S CHELSEA (169 Eighth Avenue, NYC - 212-929-5410 - http://www.judyschelsea.com/) running from September 20th through October 25th at 8:30 pm. Miss Lea will be teamed with her long time pianist Wes McAfee, who accompanied her in a series of one night a week engagements at the former JAN WALLMAN'S CABARET on Cornelia Street in Greenwich Village and the midtown location on West 44th Street through the 1980s until the club closed in 1990. There is a $15 cover charge, $12 food/drink minimum.

"The Melody Lingers On" opened at JUDY'S CHELSEA in the spring of this year and was so successful (all shows sold out) that she is returning by popular demand with a few favorites from the previous edition, but mostly new material. Both the show and the CD highlight songs from the book of the same name by the late Roy Hemming subtitled "Great Songwriters and Their Movie Musicals."

Barbara captures the truly great songs of Porter, Berlin, the Gershwins, Kern, Arlen, and Rodgers & Hart, as well as lesser-known composers such as Ralph Rainger, Harry Warren, and Arthur Schwartz - the legendary tunesmiths of the best of the American Popular Song, whose works have survived changing fashions in movies and music and who are heralded in Hemming's chronicle.

Roy Hemming was an ardent fan of Barbara Lea and rarely missed her performances at the club which was her home base for over ten years. He featured her in another book, "DISCOVERING GREAT SINGERS OF CLASSIC POP (from Jolson to Minnelli)" coauthored with David Hajdu. The CD and these evenings are a tribute to Hemming and the songwriters both he and Barbara Lea most admired.
