New Jersey Performing Arts Center Announces Cabaret Dates & Performers


CABARET AT THE CHASE CALENDAR OF EVENTS SEPTEMBER 2002 THROUGH JUNE 2003

The Chase Room at the NEW JERSEY PERFORMING ARTS CENTER (One Center Street, Newark, NJ - 888-466-5722 - http://www.njpac.org) has announced the following schedule of performances as the begin their new season.

Beginning August 26th, single tickets may be purchased by telephone at 1-888-GO-NJPAC (1-888-466-5722), at the NJPAC Box Office at One Center Street in downtown Newark, or on the NJPAC website at http://www.njpac.org/.

TOM WOPAT

Longtime heartthrob Tom Wopat is best known for his work on television (Cybill, Home Improvement) and on Broadway (City of Angels and, most recently, opposite Bernadette Peters in Annie Get Your Gun), but in recent years he has reinvented himself as a first-rate crooner. On his recent CD, The Still of the Night, Wopat reworks a variety of beloved American standards, lending his smooth, romantic vocal style to works by composers like Harold Arlen, Hoagy Carmichael, Frank Loesser, Cole Porter and Stephen Sondheim. PETER CINCOTTI

At age 18, pianist, composer and vocalist Peter Cincotti has already earned unanimous raves from the New York critics. The star of off-Broadway's Our Sinatra and the youngest performer ever to get his own show at the venerable Algonquin Hotel's Oak Room, Cincotti moves effortlessly from innovative jazz to deeply moving ballads to contemporary pop. KLEA BLACKHURST

Everything the Traffic Will Allow: The Songs and Sass of Ethel Merman Singer, actor and comedienne Klea Blackhurst has earned raves for this loving tribute to the songs, style and unique humor made famous by Broadway legend Ethel Merman. Accompanied by Michael Rice and the Pocket Change Trio, Blackhurst breathes new life into classic numbers like "I Got Rhythm," "You're the Top," "There's No Business Like Show Business," "Blow, Gabriel, Blow," "I Got Lost in His Arms," and others. This performance is made possible through the generosity of the Blanche and Irving Laurie Foundation. Tickets: $36
