Scott Siegel Announces Cast of First "Broadway By The Year" Show

"Broadway Musicals of 1933" to feature Mark Coffin, Mary Bond Davis, George Dvorsky, Ann Runolfsson and Mary Testa

The cast for the first "Broadway by the Year" show at Town Hall, "The Broadway Musicals of 1933," has been announced by the series' producer/writer/host Scott Siegel. Mark Coffin, Mary Bond Davis, George Dvorksy, Anne Runolfsson, and Mary Testa will headline. Ray Roderick will direct and Ross Patterson will be the show's musical director. The Broadway Musicals of 1933 will begin at 8:00 pm on Monday, March 18th at TOWN HALL (123 West 43rd Street, NYC). It will be followed by "The Broadway Musicals of 1940" on Monday, April 15th, "The Broadway Musicals of 1951" on Monday, May 13th, and "The Broadway Musicals of 1964" on Monday, June 10th.

Siegel also announced many of the stars who will join the casts of the next three "Broadway by the Year" shows. The heady mix of Broadway and cabaret favorites includes Tom Andersen, Brent Barrett, Bryan Batt, Steven Brinberg, Liz Callaway, Natalie Douglas, Alison Fraser, Davis Gaines, Amanda McBroom, Julie Reyburn, Richard Skipper, and Chip Zien, with yet more stars to be announced in the future.

"As a cabaret critic," said Siegel, "I see some of the most gifted singers in the world sometimes playing to twenty or fifty people on any given night. Sometimes less, sometimes more. But I want as many people as possible to see the brilliance that I see. To that end,I created this opportunity at Town Hall. I want to help performers build substantial followings so they can reach the success their talents deserve. I intend to cast these shows," he continued, "with a combination of musical theater stars (most of whom have a background in cabaret) and current cabaret standouts.

"My first obligation is to fill Town Hall's 1,500 seats. I'm delighted -- and more than a little amazed -- that the subscriptions for the 'Broadway by the Year' series have been selling at an astonishing rate. At this point, all four shows are already at approximately two-thirds of capacity. And that's before any of the shows have been advertised; these sales are strictly through brochures. My second obligation is to entertain those 1,500 people in each audience. Between the terrific songs born on Broadway during the four calendar years chosen for this season and the exceptional talent who will present that music, I think we're going to make our audiences pretty happy.

"I want to thank the cabaret community for its great support last year when we debuted this concept at Town Hall. I hope they'll come back to see if I've learned anything from the experience. And I should add that for anyone who either saw or heard good things about 'The Broadway Musicals of 1943' last year starring Jason Graae, Heather Mac Rae, and Sally Mayes, there will be a 'Live at Town Hall' version of the show available on CD from Bayview Records by early March. It will also be on sale in the lobby of Town Hall on the night of March 18th."
