Stoneham
Theatre Announces 2002-2003 Season

THE STONEHAM THEATRE (395
Main Street, Stoneham, MA - 781-279-2200 - http://www.stonehamtheatre.org/),
has announced it's upcoming season beginning September 6, 2002, with
a rip-roaring musical and concluding May 18, 2003, with a Broadway
blockbuster.
Opening the theatre's
third season is "Always . . . Patsy Cline." The play is based on the
story of Nashville songbird, Patsy Cline, and her correspondence and
friendship with fan, Louise Seger. The production includes the musical
hits "I Fall to Pieces," Crazy," and "Your Cheating Heart," and a
smoking country western band to keep toes tapping.
Fall in New England wouldn't
be the same without a bone chilling white-knuckler. "The Woman in
Black," runs October 18th Æ November 3rd. Steven Mallatratt's play
is a gripping tale set in a spooky Victorian mansion in England's
East Coast salt marshes. Called "a nerve-shredding show" by the London
Daily Express, this shadowy production is based on the death of a
lonely old woman and the mysterious appearance of a figure in black
who leads the executor of the estate into a labyrinth of terror and
self discovery.
The Stoneham Theatre's
annual production of "A Christmas Carol," rings in the holiday season
November 29th Æ December 22nd. Dickens' immortal tale is presented
with special effects including holograms and a giant puppet. Traditional
carols and a glorious Victorian set depict London just the way Dickens
intended.
Valentine's Day is wholeheartedly
celebrated with the opening of "As Bees in Honey Drown," the story
of an over-the-top, self-indulgent "it-girl" who discovers her very
own biographer on the book jacket of his run-away hit novel. This
campy, clever play won an Obie Award for its look into the allure
of glamour and fame and the resulting enlightenment of a na¥ve young
writer. "As Bees in Honey Drown," runs February 14th Æ March 2nd,
2003.
The classic American novel
is represented this year by John Steinbeck's, "Of Mice and Men," opening
March 21st and continuing through April 6th, 2003. The story of two
California migrant workers during the Great Depression offers a look
at the relationship between two men and the inevitable events that
bring their dreams to a dramatic and unfulfilled conclusion.
The season finale, "Man
of La Mancha is the touching tale of knight-errant, Don Quixote, his
man-servant, Sancho, and the ultimate embodiment of a knight's fantasy,
the lovely Dulcinea. With 18 musical numbers including "The Impossible
Dream," the play opens April 25th and continues through May 18th.
The third longest-running Broadway production of the 1960s, "Man of
La Mancha" became a hit movie in 1972 starring Peter O'Toole, Sophia
Loren and James Coco.
Tickets for all Stoneham
Theatre 2002-2003 productions are priced at $25-$35 with half price
tickets available for students and a $4 ticket discount for seniors.
Some Thursday nights offer a talk-back session following the performance.
Early bird discounts are available until May 31st. Call the theater's
box office at 781-279-2200 for more information or visit their website
