MATT
YOUNG RETURNS TO SYDNEY WITH "LUCKY TO BE ME"
After
a quick jaunt to his former home town of New York City, Matt Young
is proud to present his crowd-pleasing, one-man musical comedy, "Lucky
To Be Me" at KABARETT JUNCTION (139 Oxford Street, Bondi Junction,
Sydney, AU - 9365 6374 - bookings@showtune.com.au)
on Friday & Saturday, October 18th & 19th at 8:00 pm. Mr. Young will
be accompanied by Lindsay Partridge. Tickets are $27.20 (includes
booking fee and GST).
Having just performed
Lucky at JUDY'S CHELSEA, NYC after a successful run of "They're Playing
Our Song" in Hilton Head, South Carolina, Matt is ready to rev up
Sydney with this unconventional love story as he trains to compete
as a swimmer in the Gay Games in November.
In this new, extended
version of "Lucky To Be Me," Matt uses an eclectic mix of musical
comedy standards and contemporary pop classics, to tell the story
of meeting, courting, and falling in love with his Australian partner,
Peter. A journey spanning many months and four continents, it's a
universal love story. As well as the songs from Lucky's previous SideOn
Cafœ incarnation, including "Something's Coming," "The Love Boat"
theme song, a jazz reworking of Kylie's "I Can't Get You Out of My
Head," and the title song, "Lucky To Be Me," Matt has added a dash
of comedy to the second act and will premiere new songs from William
Finn, Karen Mack, and the gay sailors from Mark Savage's reconception
of Gilbert and Sullivan's Pinafore!
Matt has performed in
48 states in the US and 3 countries in Europe, as well as Canada and
Australia, in such shows as A Chorus Line, The Wizard of Oz, and On
the Town. Other New York credits include The Ritz, Unidentified Human
Remains and the True Nature of Love, and Elegies for Angels, Punks,
and Raging Queens. Film credits include A Beautiful Mind, Kate and
Leopold, and Man Conquers Space. Sydney audiences will recognize Matt
from performances in Bodies 2002 at the Newtown Theatre and previous
appearances at the Side-On Cafœ. In October, Matt will join the company
of Bondi Ballet for their second season of contemporary dance, "Bondi
Rocks."
