"Ride 4 America" Memorial Ceremony at Ground Zero Features Cabaret Artist

On Thursday, September 5th at 1:00 pm Cowboys and Kids will have travelled 3,000 miles and 5 months to honor the 800 children who lost parents during terrorist attacks on our homeland. The inspiring cross-country trek that started April 19th ¨ the seventh anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing ¨ when four Oklahoma cowboy riders, including a firefighter, a poet, and a bull rider, set out with an important message of strength and hope from Oklahoma to Ground Zero. Accompanying the riders is a platoon of youth from VISIONQUEST NATIONAL (an organization providing residential programs for at-risk adolescents) dressed as and representing, the historic Buffalo Soldiers.

Pointedly a rider-less horse named Scout leads the four cowboys. Scout is saddled with many personal items symbolizing the devastating loss of life resulting from terrorist attacks ¨ ranging from police badges to baseball caps.

On Monday, July 15th, "Ride 4 America" stopped in Shanksville, PA for a brief memorial ceremony at the Flight 93 crash site to salute the courageous victims and to spread the cowboy's unique message of unity. On Tuesday, July 30th, they held a patriotic ceremony at the State House in Annapolis, Maryland. On Friday, August 2nd, they held a memorial ceremony ¨ similar to the one in Shanksville ¨ on the grounds of The Pentagon by our nations capitol. On Thursday, September 5th the Memorial Ceremony at Ground Zero, NYC, will complete the "Ride 4 America."

The ceremony will be kicked off by New York City Sheriff Jim Kraylik, and will include a presentation of proclamations, a flag and the Oklahoma State tree to the City. The voice of Baby Jane Dexter will be heard singing Bob Dylan's "Forever Young." A celebrated NY Cabaret and Concert Artist, Baby Jane has developed a self-expression workshop, which aids in the healing process of VisionQuest youth.

On Thursday, Baby Jane, like many fellow New Yorkers, will be anxiously awaiting the arrival of more than 50 people on horseback who will be escorted into the city via New York City Port Authority Police Officers. Once in New York, the group will ride from the intersection of Murray and West Streets to Ground Zero to take part in the 45-minute "Ride 4 America" Memorial Ceremony.
