Danny and Sylvia: Headed for New York City

"Danny and Sylvia: A Musical Love Story," is making its way to New York City, The American Century Theater has announced. "Danny and Sylvia" will be one of three main-stage productions in the "Chip Deffaa Invitational: The New New York Theatre Festival." With artistic guidance of two-time Tony Award winner Thommie Walsh, the show will run at the CHASHAMA THEATRE (135 West 42nd Street, NYC - SmartTix at 212-206-1515). The show runs for 13 performances: September 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 18th, 19th, 20th and 22nd.

Brian Childers will reprise his Helen Hayes (2002) and his Theatre Lobby Mary Goldwater (2001) award winning role as Danny Kaye. Perry Payne will once again take on the role of Sylvia Fine. The musical follows the rise of Danny Kaye from an undisciplined improvisational comic to an international star under the guidance of Sylvia Fine, his mentor, lover, manager and wife.

Bob McElwaine wrote the book and lyrics and was Danny Kaye's publicist for over a decade. McElwaine and Bob Bain, who wrote the music, created over two dozen new songs for the fast moving musical that are joined with some of Kaye's signature songs such as "Anatol of Paris," "Tchaikovsky," and "Minnie the Moocher."

Danny and Sylvia is the longest running show in the history of The American Century Theater, having 65 performances since its workshop opening. For tickets for New York performances, call SmartTix at 212-206-1515. Tickets are $15.
