FROM
THIS DAY FORWARD Part of Chip Deffaa Invitational
The music and Iyrics
of Stephen Schwartz to be featured in new theatre festival on 42nd
Street.
Chashama
presents Ergo Theatre Company's FROM THIS DAY FORWARD as part of the
Chip Deffaa Invitational on Fridays at 9:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00
pm from September 20th through October 13th at CHASHAMA THEATRE (111
West 42nd Street, NYC - SmartTix
at 212-206-1515). This new project features the music and Iyrics of
Stephen Schwartz, including several never-before-heard Schwartz songs.
Tickets are $15.
Ergo Theatre Company's
FROM THIS DAY FORWARD is a new kind of revue featuring the music and
Iyrics of Academy Award-winner Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin,
upcoming Wicked). Previously presented in March and July at DON'T
TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788 - http://www.donttellmama.com/)
with a total of 10 sold-out weeks, the show has now been expanded
to 75 minutes, with the supervision and support of Stephen Schwartz.
Conceived and directed
by Ergo's Artistic Director Robert Jay Cronin ("La Boheme" National
Tour, "Personals" revival, "Rags" concert with Anne Runolfsson and
Leslie Kritzer) the show features Jedidiah Cohen (BROADWAY: Dickon
in "The Secret Garden," "Personals" revival), Colin Hanlon (Off-BROADWAY:
Fredric in "Pirates of Penzance"), Robyn Lee (Paper Mill Playhouse's
"Children of Eden") and Johanna Pinzler ("Personals" revival, Pasty
Cline in "Always Patsy Cline" regionally). Mark Hartman ("The Irish
and How They Got That Way," Musicals Tonight!) handles the musical
direction and new arrangements
FROM THIS DAY FORWARD
uses over 60 Stephen Schwartz songs, ranging from the well-known "Corner
of the Sky" to the obscure "Prestidigitation" in an entirely new way.
Mr. Schwartz has opened his entire catalogue of music to Ergo, so
many of his cut and unreleased songs make their NYC premiere in this
show.
Director Cronin has tossed
the idea of a traditional musical revue out the window by taking Stephen's
songs out of context and creating a patchwork of melodies and Iyrics,
which span Stephen's 30-year evolution as a songwriter. As Stephen
has explored various musical styles, one thing has remained constant
about his writing: the themes of love, loss, and yearning. It is these
universalities that sparked this plot-driven musical tribute that
chronicles the lives of bur people who "know there's something more
than this."
Ergo Theatre Company was
established in 1997, as a not-for-profit producing group, to develop,
workshop, produce and promote the work of new and rarely produced
playwrights, directors, actors, musicians, and designers. They are
founded on and grounded in the belief that artists must continually
generate their own opportunities, and do so by bringing together artists
of various backgrounds and artistic interests to create fresh and
inspired theatrical experiences in a cooperative environment.
