BENEFIT CELEBRATES CLOSE OF DEFFAA THEATRE FESTIVAL ON OCTOBER 20th

Chip Deffaa and THE TRIAD (158 West 72nd Street, NYC - 212-946-2058) present "CHIP AWAY," a wrap-party to celebrate the successful run of The Chip Deffaa Invitational Theatre Festival and to benefit BROADWAY CARES/EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS on Sunday, October 20th at 7:00 pm. There is a $20 cover (to benefit BC/EFA) and a 2-drink minimum.

This special event celebrates the artists who participated in The Chip Deffaa Invitational Theatre Festival. "CHIP AWAY" features performance excerpts from some of the Invitational's most popular and critically lauded musicals, plays and cabaret shows. It's a great way to see your favorites one more time, or see what you missed! Performers include Brian Childers and Perry Payne, stars of DANNY & SYLVIA; Sharon McNight, of the Sophie Tucker musical RED HOT MAMA; Joyce Breach, of THE JOHNNY MERCER JAMBOREE and is Co-hosted by Chip Deffaa and Jonny Peterson (star of writer/director Deffaa's GEORGE M. COHAN, IN HIS OWN WORDS)

From September 5 to October 15, THE CHIP DEFFAA INVITATIONAL THEATRE FESTIVAL presented 145 performances from 25 shows featuring an exceptional roster of up-and-coming and established playwrights, actors, directors, musicians, choreographers and dancers. Festival curator Chip Deffaa, a veteran entertainment critic for The New York Post, created the event to recognize and celebrate artists whose work he has admired over the years.

Now, Deffaa officially concludes his 40-day Invitational with an event that celebrates the participants, presents entertainment from Invitational highlights, and raises funds/awareness for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (the Deffaa Invitational donated ten percent of its box office proceeds to BC/EFA).

In addition to his sixteen years as an entertainment reviewer for The New York Post, Chip Deffaa is author of eight books, including "Blue Rhythms: Six Lives in Rhythm and Blues" and "Voices of the Jazz Age: Profiles of Eight Vintage Jazzmen." He also coauthored the David Cassidy autobiography "C'Mon, Get Happy." Deffaa is a past recipient of the ASCAP-Deems Taylor Award, which recognizes authors, journalists and broadcasters for their outstanding books, articles or broadcasts on the subject of music.
