BACK-TO-BACK
MAC AWARD WINNING COMIC RETURNS TO THE DUPLEX

Rock
Albers, winner of back-to-back MAC Awards for his comedy, is bringing
his winning act back once more to NY cabaret. The eccentric comedian,
dubbed the "mad, mad man" by the Village Voice, is giving two encore
performances at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street,
NYC - Resv. SmartTix: 212-868-4444) on Fridays at 7:00 pm on June
13th and 20th. Rock has been performing his one-man show, "The Rock
Albers Show," to enthusiastic audiences and critics for more than
three years. The show's musical director is Dick Gallagher. The show
is directed by award winning director and writer Stephen Rosenfield.
There is a $10 cover for the show, and there is a 2-drink minimum.
The cover is being waived for all MAC members and their guests. (In
making a reservation with SmartTix, they should use the Discount Code
"MAC" or "VIP.")
Rock Albers received the
2003 MAC Award as the Best Male Stand-Up Comedian at Symphony Space
on April 14th. The MAC Awards, sponsored by the Manhattan Association
of Cabaret and Clubs, are presented annually to honor achievements
in live entertainment. Albers previously received the 2002 MAC Award
as the Best Male Stand-Up Comedian at Town Hall in April 2002.
Albers, who performs in
rabbit ears, rants about state birds, the Miss America Pageant, the
Oscars, English chocolate and national flags as well as makes his
case to save the "Bunny Hop" from oblivion. He also sings parody songs
about American icons Donald Trump, Martha Stewart and Janet Reno.
Albers' rabbit ears provide an amusing contrast to the Brooks Brother
suit he wears during his act.
Albers always walks home
after a show still wearing those ears, and the response from women
of all ages has convinced him that "bunny ears are an aphrodisiac."
Albers is performing in all of the major New York comedy clubs including
Carolines, Stand-up New York, Gotham, Comic Strip, Comedy Cellar,
Boston Comedy, as well as Don't Tell Mama, Rose's Turn and The Duplex.
He was recently a guest on National Public Radio's "The Next Big Thing,"
and he has also been seen on New York 1 News as well as MTV.
Dick Gallagher, who composed
the music for the hit Off-Broadway show, "When Pigs Fly," which played
in New York for two years, has worked with singers including Patti
LuPone and has received eight MAC Awards for musical direction. He
received the 2003 MAC Award for Best Musical Director.
Stephen Rosenfield has
directed at The Roundabout Theatre, The Ensemble Studio Theatre, The
Actor's Studio and is the Director of the American Comedy Institute
and the Stand-up Comedy Experience.
