Cabaret Performance Masterclass in Boston

Cabaret artist, vocal coach and producer John O'Neil will present a Cabaret Performance Master Class at CAMBRIDGE CENTER FOR ADULT EDUCATION (56 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA - 617-547-6789 - Ext. 1 - http://www.ccae.org/) on Saturday & Sunday, January 4th & 5th from 12:30 to 4:30 pm. In this two-day intensive, Mr. O'Neil will guide students through the basics: choosing material, selecting the right keys, developing microphone technique and refining ones focus. Cost to take the class is $150, and to audit the class is $75. Discounts for members of BACA (Boston Association of Cabaret Artists - http://www.bostoncabaret.org/) are available.

Active participants (limited to six) need to have completed one year of voice study or the equivalent and will have a chance to perform for the class. Bring a selection of songs for the instructor to choose from. Brian Patton will be at the piano.

Mr. O'Neil has been regaling audiences for years with his unique blend of campy humor and compelling ballads. His recent solo show, "So Kaye: The Songs of Danny Kaye," was nominated for a 2000 IRNE award. His show "Camp Songs" was named one of the year's ten best by Bay Windows Magazine in 2000.

An O'Neill Cabaret Symposium Fellow, John made his New York debut in "Being Earnest: The Songs of Ernie LiJoi," which was named one Boston's best shows in 2001. John's musical arrangements have been sung by the Boston Gay Men's Chorus in concert halls across the country including Boston's own Symphony Hall, and John appears with them on their CD, "Freedom Merriment and Joy."

The Cambridge Center for Adult Education's "Cabaret Connection" series of performances, open mikes and classes has been nurturing this resurgence for the past six years. The Cambridge Center for Adult Education is a community-based educational institution that provides accessible education to all members of the community. Our goal is to create an inclusive environment for educational and cultural exchange that encourages diverse participation.
