JACQUES
BREL Revue Returns to CHAPEL OFF CHAPEL
Due to phenomenal
demand, the award winning production of JACQUES BREL will return to
CHAPEL OFF CHAPEL (12 Little Chapel Street, Prahran, Melbourne, AUS
- Bookings 03-8290-7000) on August 27th for a limited run through
September 7th. Performed by four of Australia's leading theatre and
cabaret artists Shaun Murphy (Combo Fiasco, Sweeney Todd, Phantom
of the Opera), Susan-ann Walker (Les Miserables, Cats), Pat Pitney
(Cats, The Sound of Music) and Mark Jones (Three Weill Men, Me and
Mr. Jones), JACQUES BREL represents cabaret as it should be - thought-provoking,
touching and completely entertaining. Performances are Wednesdays
through Saturdays at 8:00 pm, and Sundays at 7:00 pm. Tickets are
$30.
In the evocative,
intimate setting of Chapel Off Chapel, this production is performed
simply and beautifully, without the use of sets or sound-systems,
presenting these wonderful songs (which include "If You Go Away,"
"Carousel" and "Seasons in the Sun") in their purest form.
This year
marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the death of the Belgian songwriter
whose work perhaps more relevant in today's political climate than
when first performed in the cabaret clubs in Paris in the 60s and
70s. Brel's musical legacy is intriguing and beguiling Æ loaded with
wit, political reference, social commentary and PASSION.æ This music
is timeless.
JACQUES BREL
has enjoyed two previous incarnations at Chapel Off Chapel, winning
the coveted Green Room award for "Best Cabaret." This is the last
chance for Melbourne audiences to catch this truly remarkable show.
A CD, based
on this production called "JACQUES BREL: SONGS OF ... " is currently
available.
