Wilson & Chicago Performers at Benefit To Celebrate Cabaret

Cabaret
legend and icon Julie Wilson will be joining some of the biggest names
in Chicago's music scene at a benefit to celebrate the art of cabaret
in the Windy City on Saturday, September 27th at MAXIM'S (24 East
Goethe Street, Chicago, IL - Tickets: 312-409-3106). The benefit gala
for the Chicago Cabaret Professionals, entitled "We Could Go On Singing
- A Musical Feast Celebrating 100 Years Of Song." The benefit begins
at 7:00 pm and includes cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, a special silent
auction and a two act cabaret show featuring the incomparable Julie
Wilson with some of Chicago's brightest talent. Tickets are $50 in
advance and $60 at the door.
Featured
on the lineup are Sharon Carlson, Jennifer Chada, Joan Curto, Matt
Davis, Elizabeth Doyle, Pamela Sue Fox, Kari Howard, Cory Jamison,
Rob Lindley, Nan Mason, KT McCammond, Tom Michael, Roberta Miles,
Chicago's grande dame of cabaret Audrey Morris, Daryl Nitz, Suzanne
Petri, Anne Pringle, Jeanne Scherkenbach, Bob Solone, Lucia Spina
and Denise Tomasello, The program will be directed by Mr. Nitz, with
Beckie Menzie and Lex McCauley serving as musical directors.
The Chicago
Cabaret Professionals, is a membership, non-for-profit organization
of performers, producers, writers, venues, songwriters and lovers
of cabaret. CCP has over 130 members who are dedicated to promoting
cabaret through meetings, performances, benefits, workshops and networking.
They also maintain a web site and hotline and produce an annual holiday
cabaret show, which benefits Teen Living Programs.
Hailed as
the "Queen of Cabaret" by Stephen Holden of the New York Times, Ms.
Wilson's love of cabaret is so deep, that she is making a special
trip from New York to support the Chicago group, of which she is an
advisory board member. Wilson, an icon of the cabaret world, continues
to perform all over the world including New York's famed Oak Room
at the Algonquin. A favorite of Chicagoan's for nearly 60 years, Ms.
Wilson has sung at such landmark venues as The Pump Room, Empire Room,
Gold Sardine Bar and Toulouse. She has recently performed at the two
Chicago Cabaret Conventions presented by the Mabel Mercer Foundation.
