ALL-STAR CONCERT OF STEPHEN SCHWARTZ'S "CHILDREN OF EDEN"

On December 1st at 7:00 pm, to commemorate World AIDS Day, THE YORK THEATRE COMPANY will present a concert version of Stephen Schwartz's and John Caird's "Children of Eden" at THE RIVERSIDE CHURCH (Riverside Drive at 120th Street), featuring performances by Broadway stars and a 100-member chorus filled with cast members from Hairspray, Avenue Q, Nine, The Boy from Oz and several other musicals. The star-studded evening will benefit the National AIDS Fund and The York Theatre Company, and is the professional premiere of "Children of Eden" in New York City. Currently scheduled to appear in the cast are Ann Harada (Avenue Q), Norm Lewis (Side Show), Julia Murney (The Wild Party), Max von Essen (Dance of the Vampires), Anthony Rapp (Rent), Kate Shindle (Cabaret), Darius de Haas (Marie Christine), Jai Rodriguez (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy), and John Tartaglia (Avenue Q). Children of Eden will be directed by Jamie McGonnigal, with music direction by Mark Hartman. Tickets are available by calling 212-868-4444 or at http://www.smarttix.com/.

Children of Eden has a book by Caird and music and lyrics by Schwartz, the Academy and Emmy Award-winning writer of The Prince of Egypt, Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame, Pocahontas, Godspell, Pippin and Broadway's newest Oz musical, Wicked. Children of Eden tells stories familiar to many, starting with the Creation, Adam and Eve and Cain and Abel, and then moving several generations forward to the story of Noah and the Ark. Using these stories as a vehicle, Children of Eden addresses the complexities of human relationships, primarily the triumphs and tribulations of the love between parents and children.

Now beginning its 35th season, THE YORK THEATRE at Saint Peter's Church (619 Lexington Avenue, NYC - http://www.yorktheatre.org/) is the only theatre in New York City ã and one of very few in the world ã dedicated to developing and fully producing new musicals, and preserving neglected, notable shows from the past. For over three decades, York's intimate, imaginative style of producing both original and neglected classic musicals has resulted in critical acclaim and recognition from artists and audiences alike. More than 17 cast recordings from York Theatre Company productions are now available on CD, and commercial transfers of such York productions as Jolson & Company, Sweeney Todd, and Pacific Overtures have all showcased the importance of the York and its programs. The current Broadway hit, Avenue Q had its initial developmental readings at The York, as well as Summer of '42 and the soon-to-be seen Musicale: A Fantasia on the Life of Florence Foster Jenkins.
