Barbara Fasano in "What Makes Sammy Run?"

Barbara Fasano will appear in the world premier of the newly revised "WHAT MAKES SAMMY RUN?", a musical about Hollywood, in concert. Based on the novel by Budd Schulberg, the script is by Budd Schulberg and Stuart Schulberg with music and lyrics by Ervin Drake. Direction is by Bob Spiotto, and musical direction is by Frank DeMonaco. Presented by the Hofstra Cultural Center and Hofstra USA Productions, performances are March 26th, 27th, 28th at 8:00 pm and March 29th at 2:00 & 8:00 pm. A question and answer session with composer/lyricist Ervin Drake and the cast will follow each performance. Performances are at the WEST END THEATRE (South Campus, Hofstra University - 516-463-6644).

An actress and a singer, Ms. Fasano is a graduate of Hofstra University's theatre program, and has performed across the country and around the world, in theatre, film and television. For three years she lived in Australia, and co-produced that country's first music industry awards, the ARIA'S, hosted by Elton John. She is a MAC Award nominee, and 2-time Back Stage Bistro Award winner.

In addition to being distinguished as Outstanding Vocalist, Ms. Fasano's critically acclaimed CD, "THE GIRLS OF SUMMER," based on her solo show of the same name, was awarded New York's Bistro for Outstanding Recording and was singled out in the Village Voice as an album worthy of Grammy consideration. The CD has been played on radio stations from New York City to Berlin. She is a vocalist on jazz trumpeter Rick Henly's latest album, "CHRISTMAS PRESENT," and is featured on the cast album of "THE BROADWAY MUSICALS OF 1964," released in February, 2003.

As a pop-jazz vocalist, New York engagements include the Oak Room at The Algonquin Hotel, The Russian Tea Room, Sardi's, Town Hall and The FireBird Cafe. Also Ms. Fasano has appeared at The Cinegrill in Los Angeles, Odette's in Pennsylvania, The Downtown Theatre in Rochester, The Manor in New Jersey, The Prince Music Theatre in Philadelphia, and on the high seas through the Panama Canal, South America and the Caribbean. Ms. Fasano is currently working on her new solo CD, to be released later this year.
