CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH PAYING TRIBUTE TO AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSIC ICONS

FEINSTEIN'S at the Regency Hotel (540 Park Avenue, NYC - 1-212-339-4095 - http://www.feinsteinsattheregency.com/) will celebrate Black History Month with the new show "NYC MUSIC ROOTS" from February 18th through March 1st. The show will star acclaimed TV personality Marla Gibbs and feature some of the most celebrated musicians in jazz, such as Frank Owens, Byron Stripling, Grady Tate, George Rabbai, Mark Vinci, Jay Leonhart, Wilber Bascomb and more. In conjuction with the 2003 Harlem Music & Jazz Festival, they will pay tribute to African American music icons such as Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Lester Young. The show will play the following schedule: Tuesday through Friday at 8:30 pm with a late show on Friday and Saturday at 11:00 pm. Ticket prices and food & beverage minimums are as follows: Tuesday through Thursday 8:30 pm shows, and Friday 11:00 pm show - $45 cover and $30 minimum; Friday 8:30 pm shows and Saturday 8:30 pm and 11:00 pm shows - $60 cover and $30 minimum. Jackets are suggested, but not required.

Marla Gibbs gained international fame with roles on the smash hit TV series "The Jeffersons" and "227." She is an eight time NAACP Image Award winner, four time Emmy Award nominee, eight time Family TV Award winner, Essence Woman of the Year, Frances William's Women in Theatre West Award winner, Special Black Emmy Award honoree, winner of two CEBA Awards, and a host of national and local honors. In 2000, Marla received a Best Supporting Actress Award from the Southern California Method Fest. Her other credits include TV's "The Nick Cannon Show," "Touched By an Angel," "Arliss," "Judging Amy," "The King of Queens," "Dawson's Creek," "Martin," "Dream On," and several voice-overs for HBO's "Happily Ever After" animated series.

Her most recent series work is a recurring role on ABC's "The Hughleys," playing the mother of D.L. Hughley, and Arsenio Hall's mother on "Martial Law." Marla recently completed starring in the feature films Stanley's Gig and The Visit. Other recent film credits include The Brothers, Foolish, Lost and Found, Why Do Fools Fall in Love, Border to Border, and Up Against the Wall. Marla recently participated in Eve Ensler's play The Vagina Monologues in New York City.
