FRONT
& CENTRE, a Cabaret Series, Debuts in Toronto
Capricorn 9 and HERetic
Films & Productions proudly announce the debut of a series devoted
to showcasing new and cutting edge Canadian musical theatre
FRONT & CENTRE (http://www.frontandcentre.main-page.com/),
showcasing new and cutting edge works from the Canadian musical theatre
world, will debut with two performances taking place January 5th &
6th, at the newly established Cabaret Space in the St. Lawrence Centre
(27 Front St. East, Toronto, ONT, CANADA - 416-366-7723). FRONT &
CENTRE is delighted to have Jackie Richardson, one of Canada's premiere
song stylists and inspirational voices, as well as Canadian soprano
Lou Burgess, singer/songwriter Jennifer Noble, vocalist Peter Fleming,
and musical theatre performer Brett McCaig performing selections from
three musical theatre works-in-progress. Accompanying them will be
composer/lyricist Kevin Ralph Nelson on piano and librettist Tara
Raquel Cates reading brief excerpts from their work. Additional music
and lyrics by Jennifer Noble and Howie Moscovitch (UNISONG and Billboard
10th Song Contest Award Winners) and Alan Reid. General admission
tickets are $20. Limited seating available on a first come, first
served basis.
FRONT & CENTRE offers
patrons two opportunities to catch these musical theatre gems before
they hit main stage; at a Sunday matinee performance on January 5th
at 3:00 pm, and a Monday evening event on January 6th at 8:00 pm.
Selections for the first
FRONT & CENTRE event will be taken from three musicals in progress
- "Courage My Love," a pop musical set in the inner city projects;
"The Divine Heretic," a heroic musical odyssey based on the legacy
of Joan of Arc and her mother Isabelle; and the third musical, "Cinnamon
Hill," is inspired by the life, loves, art and black ancestry of Elizabeth
Barrett.
The evening will be capped
off with the Toronto theatrical premiere of the short dramatic music
film "In Her Mother's Eyes" (HERetic/Bravo!FACT), winner of the Sir
Tim Rice Award at the Marco Island Film Festival 2002 which was written,
directed and produced by Tara Raquel Cates, with music and lyrics
by Kevin Ralph Nelson and starring Ma-Anne Dionisio as Joan (Dionisio
is best known as Toronto's Miss Saigon and is currently starring in
Broadway's "Flower Drum Song") and Lou Burgess as Joan's mother Isabelle.
The film also features the voices of Tyley Ross, Geoff Butler and
the Street Haven Choir, a chorus of homeless women in transition.
The FRONT & CENTRE team
of Larry Westlake, Kevin Nelson and Tara Cates look forward to producing
further events in 2003. Dates, talent line-up and musical selections
to be announced.
