GIRLS
ARE CRAZY FOR GERSHWIN IN ATLANTA\
LIBBY'S
CABARET (3401 Northside Parkway NW, Atlanta, GA - 404-237-1943 - http://www.libbyscabaret.com/)
presents an evening celebrating the musical genius of George and Ira
Gershwin called GIRLS ARE CRAZY FOR GERSHWIN and featuring Beverly
Blouin, Kenya Hamilton, Wendy Melkonian and Libby Whittemore. Shows
are January 16th thru February 8th, Thursdays through Saturdays at
8:30 pm and Sundays at 7:30 pm. Musical direction is by Robert Strickland.
Call the club for cover charges and minimums.
Beverly Blouin makes her
fourth appearance at Libby's, audiences will remember her in "Girl's
Nite Out" and "Another Girl's Nite Out", as well as the Irving Berlin
revue "Steppin' Out". Atlanta Opera fans will recognize her from "Carmen"
and "Turandot", to name two. After all that, not to mention her BA
in Vocal Performance from Piedmont College, it seems only natural
that the next step would be Gershwin.
Kenya Hamilton is an Atlanta
native who is pleased to be making her Libby's debut. Recently she
has been seen in "A Christmas Carol" at the Alliance Theatre, and
"Smokey Joe's Cafe" at Neighborhood Playhouse. Kenya received her
BFA in Musical Theater from Ithaca College.
Wendy
Melkonian was last seen in the Actor's Express production of "Gypsy".
You may have seen her in "The Big Game" lottery spots with James Brown
and more recently with Fabio. She has a Master of Music degree from
the Boston Conservatory and teaches toddlers with The Music Class.
Libby Whittemore, who
has no degree, is just "happy to be included in this austere assembly
of scholastic over-achievers."
