POP
VOCALIST DAVID GURLAND TO PREMIERE NEW SHOW AT THE DUPLEX

2003
MAC Nominee for Best Male Vocalist, David Gurland will perform songs
with acclaimed Musical Director Steven Ray Watkins, cellist George
Trapp, and award winning vocalist Julie Reyburn at THE DUPLEX CABARET
THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 1-212-255-5438 - http://www.theduplex.com/)
on Friday's September 12th, 19th, and 26th at 7:00 pm. The show will
feature songs that cover a broad range of pop/rock songs from big
time artists such as Madonna, to up-and-coming songwriters like Michael
Holland and LA based Songwriter Randi Driscoll. David will also visit
"old territory," such as Rodgers & Hammerstein and Jule Styne; as
always, accented by his edgy humor and strong stage presence.
Gurland,
who hails from New York City, has received numerous awards and commendations
for his work including the Manhattan Association of Cabaret's Hanson
Award and the Back Stage Bistro Award for Outstanding Vocalist. His
self titled debut CD won him a second Bistro Award from Back Stage,
and a Gay and Lesbian American Music Award Nomination. In 2001, he
was awarded a rarely given 3rd Backstage BISTRO AWARD for his writing;
a "special material" parody of Sondheim's "Broadway Baby." Critics
have raved about both Gurland's voice and his stage manner.
David has
performed in and sold-out such first class New York venues as The
Cutting Room, Downtime, The Bitter End, The Living Room, CB's Gallery,
FEZ, The FireBird, Eighty®Eights, both the Dark Star Lounge and The
Triad, as well as The Gardenia in LA, Twiggs in San Diego and The
Manor in NJ. David has also been the roster of distinguished artists
to be included in Carnegie Hall's Neighborhood Concert series, for
two seasons in a row. His last show, aptly entitled "The Gurley Show,"
played for 3 sold-out runs in the winter and spring of 2002 at DON'T
TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 1-212-757-0788 - http://www.donttellmama.com/).
This will be his second solo show at THE DUPLEX, after selling out
for two performances this past April, and having appeared there in
"Dead Diva's," "Downtown Revivals," as well as the clubs New Years
and Grammy Celebrations.
