SECOND ANNUAL CABARET SERIES IN HACKENSACK

Cabaret will come once again to Hackensack, NJ as Boulevard East Productions, in association with the THE HACKENSACK CULTURAL ARTS CENTER (39 Broadway, Hackensack, NJ - 201-487-5518), presents their second annual cabaret series. The series will take place over three Fridays in September, the 12th, 19th and 26th. Admission for all shows is $12 with a senior discount.

The talent lineup for the series consists of award-winning, seasoned cabaret veterans as well as newcomers to the scene. The bill for September 12th boasts two vocalists, Brent Winborn, offering a sampling of his recent hit show "Welcome to the 60s," and Page Sampson, who will be performing from "Braving the Elements," her most recent show which just concluded an acclaimed run at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 1-212-757-0788 - http://www.donttellmama.com/). On September 19th, Eddie Bruce salutes two entertainment icons: Anthony Newley and Tony Bennett, in his show, "Eddie and the Tonys." The series closes on September 26th with The Decibelles, four gals in 4-Part harmony, opening for singer Joan Crowe, who presents a salute to great women songwriters of the 20th Century in "Women of Note."

First a church, then a branch of the Hackensack library, THE HACKENSACK CULTURAL ARTS CENTER is located in a wonderful building in the heart of town. Arts Director Greg Liosi has given the building a huge amount of tender, loving care, transforming it to a vibrant community resource. Recent renovations include the installation of a professional lighting grid and instruments, theatrical masking around the perimeter of the playing area, an "act curtain" in the proscenium and an upgraded sound system. First conceived as a church, the space has excellent acoustics, and plays host to a wide variety of cultural and civic events.

Brent Winborn has appeared in Manhattan cabaret rooms at Eighty Eight's, Don't Tell Mama, Rose's Turn, Regents and at Odette's in New Hope, PA. A musical theater veteran, he has acted Off-Broadway and as a guest artist in regional theaters across the country. He introduced his original composition "Good Fortune," featured on his debut CD SECOND CHANCE, in November 2002 at the MAC/ASCAP Songwriters' Showcase. In addition, Brent has performed solo in the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra Pops Series and as a featured performer on Commodore Cruise Lines and Holland America's World Cruise.

Page Sampson appeared most recently in her latest one-woman show, "Braving the Elements," which ran in June and July of 2003 at Don't Tell Mama in mid-town Manhattan. Her previous show, "First Person Singular," premiered at Don't Tell Mama in May of 2002, and enjoyed a successful return engagement the following winter. Page has been an active cabaret singer since 1999, and has performed in a number of showcases and revues at Don't Tell Mama, The Duplex, and Judy's Chelsea. She is also a song-writer, and has presented original work in each of her last two shows. Born and raised in central Massachusetts, she currently lives in Glen Ridge, New Jersey with her husband, Andrew Meyer, a news anchor at WBGO-FM in Newark.

For more than 25 years, Eddie Bruce has been entertaining audiences with his unique repertoire, including everything from Top 40, R&B, as well as Swing and Sinatra, for public and private events. One of the Philadelphia-area's most sought-after party bands, Eddie's orchestra features some of the most talented musicians and vocalists in the business. Eddie and his orchestra were recently honored to perform at the Grand Gala opening of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Maintaining an active schedule with his band, Eddie is also emerging as a sought-after cabaret artist. He has headlined at Bally's in Atlantic City, Odette's in New Hope and performed his show at the late, lamented Eighty Eight's as well as The Supper Club and Danny's. His vocal talents are showcased on his CD, We'll Never Say Goodbye.

The Decibelles perform their tight harmonies at concerts and events throughout New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Their latest CD, "Wish That You Were Here" is not your run-of-the-mill oldies mix. Eighteen acapella gems from the Doo Wop vaults that are rarely, if ever performed today are brought from obscurity into the spotlight, as only these four ladies can do it. The Decibelles made their New York theatrical debut as the Andrews Sisters in "The Frog Prince," for which they received glowing reviews in the New York Times and Back Stage. They have been frequent guests on Don K. Reed's Doo-Wop Shop on CBS-FM radio, and were recently honored by the United in Group Harmony Association.

Joan Crowe is a versatile singer with an extensive repertoire of jazz, standards, pop, rock, blues and folk. In addition, Joan's comic ability earned her most recent performance award, the 2002 MAC award (Manhattan Association of Cabaret and Clubs) for Female Musical Comedy. Her credits include performances at The Manor, Arci's Place, Don't Tell Mama, Danny's Skylight Room, Eighty Eight's, Judy's Chelsea, The Emelin Theatre, The Cinegrill in Los Angeles, Odette's, Teddy Cares, the National Society of Arts and Letters, the ASCAP songwriters' showcase, and the 1999 Cabaret Convention at Town Hall. Well known to daytime viewers in a recurring role on "All My Children," Joan has also appeared on screen in "Working Girl" and "An Eye For An Eye," with Sally Field. Classically trained with a MFA from the Asolo State Theatre and a BFA in Theatre from Indiana University at Bloomington, her acting credits are extensive. She has performed Regionally at the Asolo State Theater, Kennedy Center, Indiana Repertory. Her New York acting credits include Dance Theatre Workshop, Altered Stages and Theatre Works USA.
