Keri
Kelsey Makes Her New York Debut at Danny's
Following
her successful solo cabaret debut at THE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica
Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444), emerging cabaret singer
Keri Kelsey makes her New York City debut at DANNY'S SKYLIGHT ROOM
(342 West 46th Street, NYC - 1-212-265-8133 - http://www.dannysgrandseapalace.com/)
on Thursday, May 29th at 9:15 pm. The show "Everything Must Change"
stars the charismatic Keri Kelsey relating through humor and song,
life's most dramatic transitions: getting married, having children,
moving house and even the changing seasons. Accompanied on piano by
Alex Rybeck and directed by Clifford Bell, Ms. Kelsey performs the
timeless music of Burt Bacharach, Oscar Hammerstein II, Jerome Kern,
Lew Spence, Ann Hampton Callaway and Cy Coleman. There is a $12 cover,
$10 food/drink minimum.
Show highlights include
a delightful medley of beloved TV theme songs of the 50s, 60s and
70s from "I Dream of Jeannie" to "I Love Lucy" and "Bewitched" and
as well as a compelling interpretation of Charles Aznavour's classic
ballad "Quiet Love" performed both vocally and in sign language by
Ms. Kelsey. The inclusion of Charles Aznavour's emotionally provocative
Quiet Love in Everything Must Change, a song that she simultaneously
sings and signs, stems directly from Keri Kelsey's love affair with
sign language. Inspired by a visit by the National Theatre Of The
Deaf during her college years in Florida, Ms. Kelsey went on to become
a qualified sign language interpreter as well as a current member
of the Board of Directors for the Deaf West Theatre in California.
Married to circus acrobat
Richie Gaona of the world-famous Flying Gaonas, Keri Kelsey's story-like
career has seen the vivacious and statuesque blond serve as Ring Mistress
with the Big Apple Circus where she also despite a distinct preference
for life at ground level had her first introduction to the trapeze.
She also swung from the mouth of giant dinosaur on an award-winning
float at the 1994 Rose Bowl Parade. When Keri Kelsey sings Stephen
Schwartz's "Lion Tamer" in her new cabaret show, she sings it with
unique authority, having straddled the bare back of many a dangerous
lion and tiger during her circus days.
A native of Louisville,
Kentucky, Keri Kelsey now lives in Los Angeles where her cabaret career
is off to a flying start following recent shows at the renowned Cinegrill,
Masquers Cabaret and The Gardenia. She has also performed at the famous
Plush Room in San Francisco and is thrilled to be making her New York
debut. The versatile Ms. Kelsey has worked as an actress and literary
agent and devotes much of her free time to bringing up the next generation
of acrobatic performers, namely her son and "stunt kid" Alex Gaona
whose Hollywood stunt credits already include "Hook," "The Flintstones,"
"The Little Rascals" and "Friends."
