Victoria Lavan To Glitter in Show at El Portal Theatre

Soprano Victoria Lavan will appear in her new one-woman cabaret show "Glitter And Be Gay: A Tribute To Barbara Cook," a musical retrospective of Broadway and Cabaret legend Barbara Cook, to be presented on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm, May 2nd through 31st at the historic El Portal/Circle Theatre, 5269 Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood, CA). Cabaret sage Clifford Bell will direct and noted pianist Tom Shell, (accompanist for the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles), will serve as Musical Director of the show. "Glitter And Be Gay: A Tribute To Barbara Cook" is a one-woman 80-minute cabaret show written and performed by soprano Victoria Lavan. Songs to be performed include: "Vanilla Ice Cream " from "She Loves Me" by Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock; "Till There Was You" and "My White Knight" from "The Music Man" by Meredith Wilson; "Mr. Snow" from "Carousel" by Rodgers and Hammerstein; Leonard Bernstein's "Glitter And Be Gay" from "Candide," "Simple Song" from "Mass," "One Hand, One Heart" from "West Side Story" and "Some Other Time" and "I Can Cook, Too" from "On The Town; " Wally Harper's "The Ingenue" and "I Never Knew That Men Cried;" "I Love a Piano" by Irving Berlin; "He Was Too Good to Me" by Rodgers and Hart; "My Father" by Judy Collins; "Lullaby in Ragtime " by Sylvia Fine; "Sweet Georgia Brown" by Pinkard-Bernie-Casey; "I Never Meant to Hurt You" by Laura Nyro and "If Love Were All" by Noel Coward, among others. Lavan's show serves as a musical retrospective of the Broadway and Cabaret legend, Barbara Cook, by tracing her triumphant return to the concert stage in 1975 at Carnegie Hall and spans her many years as Broadway's premier ingenue in such hit shows as: "The Music Man," "The Grass Harp," "She Loves Me," "Candide," "Plain and Fancy" and "Carousel."

Ms. Lavan has performed widely throughout the Western United States in operas, oratorios, concerts and musical theatre. Her repertoire includes roles as Gilda in "Rigoletto," Amina in "La Sonnambula," Rosina in "II Barbiere di Siviglia," Lucia in "Lucia di Lammermoor," Zerlina in "Don Giovanni," Lauretta in "Gianni Schicchi," Musetta in "La Boheme," Miss Silverspeal in "The Impressario," Adele in "Die Fledermaus, " Gulietta in "I Capulet e i Montecchi, " Blondchen in "Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail" and Olympia in "Les Contes d'Hoffman." She was recently seen in another of her hit one-woman cabaret shows, "Marry Me ... A Little" at Masquers Cabaret in West Hollywood, CA.
