The 2003 Cabaret Nouveau Series begins with "the gospel according to Kris Lee"

Kris Lee kicks off the 2003 Cabaret Nouveau Series with "the gospel according to Kris Lee" on January 16th, 17th, and 18th at 8:00 pm (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) at the Bloomington Playwrights Project - BPP (312 South Washington Street, Bloomington, IN - 812-355-9001). It promises to be an evening of sacrilege and sacrament as cabaret artist Kris Lee takes a very different look at himself. His slightly sinful sense of style and humor are brought together on his terms through stories and songs in an unforgettable night of one little boy's lies and loves. Tickets are $12 General Admission and $10 Students and seniors.

Twenty-six years in the making, "the gospel according to Kris Lee" has a few surprises. There is something tempting about his crooked grin, unruly hair and that brassy fragile tenor of his. With his wide array of songs ranging from pieces of Kander and Ebb's Chicago, and Kurt Weill to Harold Arlen and Duke Ellington, Mr. Lee even encompasses pieces truer to his nature and croons a few hymns. Kris claims his inspiration for "the gospel according to Kris Lee" surfaced in retrospect, over the loss of his longest, best friend, his dog, on the eve of his twenty-fifth birthday.

Kris Lee is a familiar face at the BPP having appeared on stage in "Scrooge Variations," "Kate Crackernuts" and "The Dianalogues" and worked behind the scenes as assistant director for the Cabaret Nouveau Series productions "Detour Ahead" and "Slightly Deranged." In October 2002, he appeared in Detour Production's "A Doll's House" at the John Waldron Arts Center. Previous theatrical experiences include "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?," "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," among others, as well as original debuts for "Where's Tony?," "The Right Box," and "C & J," throughout the Southeast United States. He has also begun work in film, with two films completed: "The Immaculate Reception" and "Wall-to-Wall," both currently in festival circulations from Austin to Berlin.
